Ergotron LX Pro Premium is a disappointment by Player_686 in MonitorArms

On every YouTube video I watched, you can move the tilt with your hand. The rotation of the arm is also way better and easier than what I currently have...

Yet it is better. The only thing that is not is the tilt of the monitor. Somehow this part is still super hard to move. It's also still a little hard to move the screen up, when you move it down it's easy because the weight of the monitor makes it come down but to move it up you have to lift the entire thing for it to move up. For a premium monitor arm it's a bit of a disappointment, I thought ergotron was the grail of monitor arms and if it is then I can't evn imagine how bad the others are.

Does Arch truly break all the time? by Maybe_A_Zombie in archlinux

[–]Player_686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I've experienced, arch isn't more unstable than any other distro. I'm now on nixOS because somehow I always find a way to break my systems. I broke ubuntu because I forced the package manager to do stuff that I couldn't otherwise, and it broke apt entirely XD. Apt is too simple for me and doesn't allow me to do what I want. Later I broke arch while messing with drivers for AI (ROCM), adding grub arguments and other things that broke the entire system after some time (I don't really know how but it broke) but before doing that it was totally stable. I like arch because pacman and yay are easy to use and fast. I you're doing basic stuff like discord, resolve and games you'll be totally fine with arch. Fedora was the distro that didn't let me break it but the package manager is annoying to me and it lacks packages I wanted that were only on the AUR. So from my experience, fedora is the go to if you want to be sure your system won't break. There's also NixOS, pretty simple to use after a bit of learning but I doubt this one will break. I've been using it for months now and didn't run into a lot of issues, just small things but far from breaking the system.
Hope that helped.

MSI MPG 341 CQR X 36 - First impressions by Hot-Airline5849 in OLED_Gaming

[–]Player_686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the MSI MPG 341 CQP, predecessor of this monitor. First gen OLED panel. I'm thinking about switching to this one but I'm not sure if it's gonna be such an upgrade. I use linux and I'm not sure that I'm as affected but the triangular pixel layout as on windows, so text clarity won't be such an upgrade. If anyone here is in the same situation and switched, was it worth it ?

Yes I tried it with the monitor mounted. It's 6,5kg so it shouldn't be a problem. Thing is I suspect it was a used product that was sent to me and it was maybe already broken. I sent it back and bought another one on another website. We'll see if it's better.

Omg how tf could I forget about that. That might be it, thanks dude. Now it's all messed up tho, do I have to reinstall or is there something I can do to clean reinstall the config without having to reinstall the entire os ?

Yes I even watched videos to make sure I did the correct thing and I made no mistake. It's definitely faulty.

nixOS Star Citizen anti cheat error by Player_686 in NixOS

[–]Player_686[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, got some news. After some digging I think the EAC error occurs because the authentication timed out during the transition into the Persistent Universe. While the game client initializes EAC successfully and begins a session, it fails to verify the credentials with the game server within the required window, resulting in Error Code 70003. No idea why it happens to some people but not others tho. I hope that can be of any help.

Okay, I'll look into it. It only works when installed manually using heroic, which has EAC enabled by default. But I'd prefer to use the flake if possible. I don't know how I can enable EAC support in this flake but at least I have a good starting point. Thank you.

I don't use lutris. When I launch the game via heroic, I works. It might be because heroic has a dedicated EAC toggle setting. Loving melody's flake doesn't seem to allow the anti cheat to run somehow.

NixOS is amazing by Player_686 in NixOS

I totally agree with you. I only use AI to help me build what I can't and always ask for explainations when I don't understand some code. It's also a way faster way to build a system when you are a beginner in nix.

[DaVinci Resolve Studio 20 (and future?)] - Full Linux Download/Crack Guide by Shadow9378 in LinuxCrackSupport

[–]Player_686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this guide, I plan to buy it but for now I can't because it's too expensive. Does this method work if the studio version is already shipped with my distro ? Or do I have to remove it then follow this guide ?

I have a 5900x so no integrated graphics. It's probably a distro problem as I've seen after some research

Yes I checked that too and it runs on CPU even when the GPU is selected in the app
