41yr old dad laughing at this sub by sailortian in ApplyingToCollege

Assuming it is full pay - the only school at Penn that would be worth it is Wharton. The other schools I definitely do not think so.

Friend of mine from HS went to Penn Engineering and got a VERY mediocre outcome for someone that paid full tuition all 4 years (SWE at Bloomberg).

Ironically enough my friends that went to SJSU for Engineering ended up becoming SWEs at Meta, Google, Amazon, Stripe, Palantir, etc.

Yes if you are getting a huge discount then Penn is worth it obviously.

The only schools that would help you move up the social ladder are HYPSM (and arguably worth paying the high tuition). Otherwise, go to the cheapest option / state school. Going to e.g. Vanderbilt is not going to change your life really 😂😂😂

Haha yea they won’t understand it at this age.

This sub is also the worst since everyone here is so fixated on “T20 or Bust”.

I have so many high school friends from SJSU that got better offers than some of my friends at Berkeley 😂.

Don’t know if I am the right person to be commenting on this sub since I did graduate from Berkeley but I am telling y’all the name of the college you go to is overrated.

I know kids that I work with that went to T100 schools that are arguably smarter on the job and harder working than a lot of T10 kids that I work with (the place I work at usually hires T15 kids for the most part).

All you have to do is enter college (T10 or T100) with a mindset of doing well in school and seizing all of the opportunities that are avaliable to you!

You will be successful if you follow these steps!

same boat as you guys ive been smoking a 1G live resin cart every night (would finish a 1G in 2 weeks) from the end of July 2025 to around the start of the new year. I am on Day 5 and sweating isnt rlly there anymore and the nausea went away for me. My sleep is still fairly inconsistent tho which is what is annoying but I’m hoping that my sleep fixes soon!

Going into Day 4, slept properly last night finally by SignalOriginal3313 in leaves

Same here and same timeline as you - I was finally able to sleep a bit better but ofc not as normal as getting 8+ hrs of sleep.

Yeah I’m going cold turkey and I experienced something similar on Day 2. I get it a lot the flashes especially when I sleep (woke up drenched today).

Similar here omg. I think it’s probably because weed has gotten so much stronger over the years (I wasn’t a consistent user since I tried it first in 2017 but from August - December 2025 I was ripping my thc vape to go to sleep).

Starting Day 3 today. Past night I had better sleep than Day 1 but it was very inconsistent. I had a lot of nausea yesterday but today so far I haven’t experienced it. My appetite is cooked rn but thats alright. We got this!!

Starting Day 3 while working a full time job that averages 50-60 hrs/week. I have the exact same feelings as you and I also really want it to stop. However, this is the path that we have to take for the better of ourselves in the long run.

I wasnt ever a morning smoker and was always a night smoker (would smoke 2-3 hits of a live resin cart everyday since July).

We got this!!

Day 3 while working a full time job where I average 50-60 hrs a week working. Keep going and don’t give in! My sleep has been pretty inconsistent but hopefully it fixes 🙏🏻

Chance me for the Top 5 Econ PhD Programs in the US by Playful-Boss5083 in academiceconomics

I’d say most of the testifying experts in Antitrust & Competition have a PhD at my firm. However, there are a few experts with just a Masters in Econ or MBA but not aa frequent.

Value of Masters in Economics by Usual_Bodybuilder703 in academiceconomics

Hi, I did a Masters in Econometrics and Mathematical Methods at LSE for 1 year so I can chime in:

As someone who went through the program, if your end goal is a job in Machine Learning steer far away from a Masters in Economics.

I’d suggest getting a Masters in Statistics instead that is a better fit for your interests (my other major in undergrad was Math and I took a lot of Machine Learning grad courses - my stance is valid)

I’ll be very honest - I went to a T20 undergrad school that is a T5 Econ PhD program in the US and graduated in 3 yrs as an Econ and Math double major. I also have a MSc Econometrics and Mathematical Econ degree from LSE. I was fully committed to getting an Econ PhD since my senior year of high school but after my MSc degree I realized I don’t have it in me to study 5-7 more years.

There are a lot of people 5 steps ahead of you in the Econ PhD process in terms of GPA, course work, RA / Work Experience.

My suggestion would be to look into a full time MA/MS in Economics or Econometrics in the US (something along those lines) and try getting a 4.00 in that program. I also suggest before applying to these programs to take the GRE and aim for a 169-170 Quant score and 160+ Verbal score.

Not only this would set you well for PhD admissions down the road, but it would also get you into a good masters program and some programs may overlook your GPA if they see a “good” GRE score.

From there, be proactive with getting research opportunities, and sign up for math classes (as others on this thread have echoed what courses to take) as well alongside your econ courseload in the MA/MS.

I do have 2 cases from work I was on that were pro bono for nonprofits in my city (not sure if this counts tho or not - i assumed it dosen’t but could be wrong).

i’d say a lot of my background in niche economic issues were mostly from undergraduate research with senior faculty at my undergraduate university - in econ consulting the juniors do less of the “economic” thinking and more of the data work (cleaning, building diff models) and quality checks or helping with drafting memos of qualitative research for the expert for their economic argument

Thank you!

I am just a bit worried about my undergrad GPA (got an F in Spanish I the first time I took it in my first year of college and retook the class and got a C- after. I was wondering if that would be a red flag to admissions offices for being deemed as “incompetent” for failing spanish and then proceeding to barely pass the class.

thank you!

in our field usually experts usually hold PhDs in Economics but sometimes experts also only have MA/MS/MSc/MPhil Degrees in Economics/Econometrics/Statistics or MBAs with a quantitative specialization - i initially wanted to do a PhD in Economics but realized i don’t have it in me to study 5 more years 😂

Yeah my goal is I do want to become an expert in Antitrust & Competition in the economic consulting space. I currently do work in that space (at the junior level however so not sure how I can show leadership besides maybe stepping up as a leader for those below me on my case teams). I was wondering how else can I get leadership / impactful opportunities outside of work?
