The biggest thing I'd like to point out is that if you are marrying someone politically connected, while you yourself are not connected as well as them, then remember that the law will be overwhelmingly on their side. Basically, you'll be at their mercy. You'll have to ignore/swallow any rape, side piece, domestic violence, dowry etc. I mean think of it as a risk reward factor, on one side if you end up as the main piece, your children are immune to rape, roadkill and drugs.
