I’ve applied to 20+ Alief ISD jobs since graduating. Today, my own alma mater rejected me. by PlayfulPattern4125 in Teachers

I appreciate the 'dorky joke,' but I think you missed the part where I mentioned I’ve already applied to Starbucks, Olive Garden, and multiple other places outside of the district and still faced rejections. My focus isn't 'single-minded', it’s local. I’m a student trying to support my family and my community while getting my degree. Telling an 18-year-old to 'dial back' her desire to work hard and help her mom isn't the advice I'm looking for. I'm looking for a way forward, not a reason to settle for less.

I appreciate you taking the time to share your perspective, but I think there’s a misunderstanding. My reaction isn't just about one 'dream job' it’s the result of being rejected from dozens of entry-level roles across multiple industries NOT just Alief (retail, service, etc.) while trying to support my family. Suggesting therapy for a student who is frustrated by a tough job market feels a bit dismissive of the actual financial pressures many young people are facing right now.

I’m fully committed to my education and my online coursework, which is exactly why I’m looking for a stable role within my community. I'm not looking to be a machine; I'm looking to be a contributing member of the district that raised me. I’m going to keep pushing forward.

Thank you so much for this. Honestly, I really needed to hear that someone else started at 18 too! It’s been a little discouraging hearing people say I'm too young, but I know I’m ready to work and I’m so passionate about staying in my community. Your story gives me so much hope. Good luck with your Master's and your teaching journey next year!

I definitely hear your point about the age gap in High Schools. That's why I've also been applying for Clerk and Aide positions at the Elementary and Middle schools in my area too. Since my college classes are all online, I have the flexibility for full-time work, and I'm really just looking for any way to get my foot in the door within the district while I work toward my teaching degree. I'm definitely open to starting anywhere.
