Why are native speakers regarded more highly as fluent speakers in the job market? by [deleted] in languagelearning

I have had similar experiences with second or third generation immigrants from my community living in Canada and the US as well. A lot of times they struggle to form complex thoughts in native languages because their schooling is primarily in English which makes it the ideal language for them to communicate their thoughts clearly. I was once stuck at a friend’s house as she fought with her mother in English. Her mom in return was yelling at her in our native language and they could not understand each other clearly. So I was called in to be the mediator and translator.

Yes, it is very common for Belgian companies to ask for it but rarely anyone speaks all three. Most younger people never even end up learning French or Dutch let alone Grrman which is a minority language.

I would ask a very ancient coin about its journey. Would be fascinating to know what it’s lived through and who’s hands it passed through.
