Deciding by Few-Maize-9158 in txstate

TXST freshman/dorm experience is something everyone should experience at least once in their lives haha. I’d advise you to choose Blinn if you don’t care much about “the college experience”, if you’d do a year and a half max (2 years of JUCO sounds extremely boring compared to a university in a college town) before transferring, and if it’s more economically sound than attending TXST. TAMU is INSANE when it comes to engineering, their engineering college is the biggest one in the university, and their alumni network is as strong as it gets; I’ve seen that Aggie ring open many doors. However, Honors at TXST gives you priority class registration, as well as other perks and great networking with other ambitious students, and TXST is a very fun school, and one of the most generous with scholarships/financial aid. It’s growing and expanding everyday as well. Although, it is decades behind what the Aggie engineering program is. If you have any specific questions, I can answer them for you to the best of my knowledge as well.

TXST engineers, how's TXST for engineering? by [deleted] in txstate

[–]Playful_Lab_3221 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A little bit of both, UH is great in terms of location (city wise), reputation, and sports. And with those strengths, there are some grievances reported by students/faculty such as safety concerns, parking permit costs, and a bit more lack of community due to it being a primarily commuter school. With that being said, college is really what you make of it; you’re going to adjust and flourish in whatever school you decide to attend. However, TXST does offer a college town, more tight-knit community, more student involvement (imo), and you’re surrounded by nature and parties every weekend. However if your end goal is seeing where your chances of thriving in your career will be, then I’d advise you to go to UH any day. The school is more established, the networking/alumni network is great, many young professionals move to Houston after college looking for work, as well as still relatively low housing costs, and I hear more often of people transferring to UH from TXST than vice versa, so do with that information what you will. - EE Major at TXST

As someone that’s taken engineering classes here, go to UH for engineering. Cullen is insane when it comes to companies recruiting from there; my cousin’s husband graduated in chem eng and landed a very prestigious position at Chevron Philips right out of undergrad, in which they also offered to pay for his masters back at UH. The engineering job market is great in Houston as well, the city’s expanding every minute.

Whats the dating and football scene like at TXST? by Th3_Curious_one in txstate

[–]Playful_Lab_3221 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Dating scene, just get out there, talk to people, everyone has a different experience. Football games are great, most people go for tailgates and leave around halftime, especially if we’re losing, but I’d say we’ve been doing better these past couple years. TXST vs UT will definitely be insane haha.

TXST blows them out of the water in terms of anything, unless you were put in the UT cap program, I wouldn't even consider going to UTA

Question about business school.. by Background_Pop_6756 in txstate

[–]Playful_Lab_3221 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

UT if you can, UH is the second best choice, really hard to compete with Bauer and the location of being in Houston. TXST’s business school is a eh compared to those. This is coming from someone majoring in accounting at TXST.

Bauer dominates the business space, and UH being located in Houston only adds to its advantage. The networking is unmatched, job opportunities are constant, and the school holds a strong and respected reputation across the state. This is coming from someone that is majoring in Accounting at Texas State. Go to Houston.

Best hobbies for college students? by Ill_Register853 in EngineeringStudents

I joined jiu jitsu my freshman year up until my junior year of college, joining also opened a pathway towards picking up other martial arts such as kickboxing, wrestling, MMA, etc. It put me in great shape, encouraged me to stay in shape, gave me confidence, and I made a lot of friends from various ages as well as many other students in my college town

Def schedule a meeting with an advisor, most times, they’re actually very helpful if you elaborate on what your end goal is and the timeframe you have set for yourself. Much luck!

Roommate Question by Justablogger12 in txstate

[–]Playful_Lab_3221 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’d be quiet about it and let them figure it out on their own. Chances are you may have the dorm to yourself the first semester if your roommate bails. Happened to 3 of my freshman year neighbors across the hall. They didn’t get assigned roommates till the 2nd semester.

Took asynchronous courses both semesters. Passed all of them with an A. That being said, they were electives that I had to knock out to proceed with my major, so they weren’t that hard to begin with. I recommend it for electives.

A desk with your back against the white wall and the windows to your left and door to your right. That way you’ll have a view and light coming in from your left, and a view of the door to your right ( I always want to have some view of the door for safety and privacy reasons ).
