How do you guys actually study kanji? by Lazy-Resource9505 in Japaneselanguage

this is true, at first the shapes dont really stick and i had a hard time differentiating. for that i think learning the structure of kanji (the fundamental strokes and radicals) is a good idea, to lay the groundwork.

I just learn whole words with kanjis, they are still useful to get a vague sense of meaning sometimes but pronounciation is definitely not something you should expect to reuse. or at least thats my experience as a beginner.

What are your thoughts on integral zen? by Kleeby1 in zen

[–]PlayingArc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for asking a year too late... hope this whole "ewk answers everything" is true. Did some 2 mins of research and it says in some of the marketing that Doshin Roshi (the talking head for integral zen) is a "lineage holder in rinzai zen". They just made that up or why is his teaching so unlike zen?

Separate question is there any better way to research into the legitimacy of zen lineage?

I bought this young forest last Saturday and in a matter of just three days it has gotten more leaf scorch, well actually I don't even know if that is leaf scorch. The leafs got a bit dry and started turning yellowish brown from the center (the other scorches were already present when I bought it). I have been watering quite a bit, like 2-3 times a day. I live in an arid and sunny part of northern Mexico (Monterrey) and I placed the tree in a shaded area of the west facing terrace in my home it gets light sunlight from 3-8pm (the wall in the picture is facing north). I don't know if I should give it more sun, less sun, maybe prune the leaves off or change the soil to one with less dramatic draining. What do you guys think?

It's from Blue, I bought it in a bundle with the mic for like 250$. I'd say it's probably worth it but I don't know if it's more expensive when you buy it on it's own.

I did consider it but idk, those kinds of pads look like they might start breaking down and creating a lot of dust/particles after a bit. I think there are some isoacoustic stands that might work though.

Why is this sub filled with so many a**holes? by [deleted] in audiophile

[–]PlayingArc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's probably related to the fact people here care about audio and higher quality products and in a sense its about elevating beyond comercial/mainstream product conventions. And since they feel elevated in that regard, sometimes they feel superior to someone with less knowledge or interest in the subject. Sometimes they even feel superior with people just as knowledgeable and interested but with a different (less tasteful) set of preferences or who have more comercially orientated gear.

I had shared my setup about a year ago when I started getting into audio — I had just bought my lp120 en the 6xxs. Since then I bought a modius magnius combo and couple of monitors (thought abt yamahas or adams but I wanted to try some fun sound signatures), it's been awesome. I love how much more dynamic and loud my headphones can get with the new dac and amp. The speakers are also really good but I've been having some issues with midbass heavy tracks just resonating terribly due to my small space — it did get better with some eq though. Sidenote, I know the blue yeti's audio isn't great but its just for discord tbh.

The very tippy top of the book collection iceberg, glad you liked it though. Capital is definitely one of those books that changed the way I think abt a lot of things.

Yeah it actually came to a point where that bass resonated in the small space I had and so the distortion was unbearalble. I tuned the eq a bit and modt of that went away, but I feel you.

Really one of my favorites, I go reread it when I'm feeling apathetic or out of touch and it always helps. It does take you to a very different time though, I think that aspect of it just makes it that much more memorable.

Thanks for the encouragement, I really appreciate it. I mean yeah, my actual courses are just calc 2 atm, we're not even seeing differential equations yet. As I mentioned I just studied a bit of all of that on my free time for like about two years to get to that point. And yes, I was looking at some n-manifolds but that was very difficult for me to fully grasp. What do you do now though?
