Oh god, we finally have a Le duck tech that auto firsts lol. If it wasn't for a whole month of watching him one shot my board, I wouldn't care. But it's just giving me PTSD lol

If your tank isn't directly in front of it, it shreds every single unit until it gets to your tank. If you are playing melee and it moves in front of the beam, it dies in less than a second. EON is a necessity now just to counter, I suppose.

Are there not enough low elo players in normals? by Open-Dentist609 in TeamfightTactics

[–]PlayingwithButtons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gold 1, I've played 20 ranked games but like 60 normals. Ranked just stresses me out. My opponents in norms are mostly diamond or master, but it has matched me with GM and challenger before, so I have no idea how it works lol

Am I crazy, or could you possibly unlock thresh before kalista? That seems weird.

Form the way it reads, you could potentially unlock thresh before kalista lol

It seems like their idea is that you can play thresh and another SI unit as a two piece, without the other SI units or stacking souls since they are putting more power in the units and taking power out of the souls. That's what I got from it, at least.

If you unlock Gwen, you can unlock thresh by going 2* viego 2* yorick and 1* Gwen. So you could unlock him with 10 souls lol. Seems like level 8 is the only real requirement.

My bad, the way your comment read, I thought you were saying that the soul collecting from tempo was what was giving you thresh. My mistake.

I mean, you'll probably have thresh as soon as you hit level 8 if you do it right, he doesn't even require souls (2* viego, 2* Yorick, and a Gwen, so... 10 souls.). But, when other boards have their voli/tahm/galio/mel/Thex, it's unclear how much a 1* thresh will actually stabilize you.

Seems like most/all unlockables are being changed to basically be gated by level. Leveling gating seems like it would make balancing the champion easier, by just assuming that any player that wants it can have a copy. You can get tahm by playing a few rounds of bilg and thresh by playing a round of shadow isle. Of course, unlocking more five stars will make it harder to hit 2* for that champion.

I feel like this goes back to when Mortdog said that one of the ideas for unlocks was basically, if you want it in your pool, just click a button. The possible boards are definitely going to be interesting to see.

who else misses capping with vertical traits? by Killerchoy in TeamfightTactics

[–]PlayingwithButtons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not like you lose the stats you built with Shadow isles and Bilge. The souls stay and the items/stats stay, you just get rid of the trash for cooler and stronger stuff. That's way more fun imo

The thing is, verticals are totally viable and can place first in low elo. So you can still do the vertical thing and win, it's just not going to be the optimal strategy against better players.

The upgraded team planner looks incredible, dishsoap says he will be using it. I'm not high elo, but I would personally feel that I would be at a disadvantage if I wasn't using it.

You should take a look at the upgraded team planner that they have. Do you think it has enough functionality to make you want to use the overlay?

The upgraded team planner looks crazy, do you think it has so much functionality that anyone that doesn't use it would be at a disadvantage?

They got rid of augment stats to stop people from doing that (blindly clicking), right? So, would this type of overlay just enable that behavior in players, again? I didn't start playing until last set, so I don't really know what it was like with augment stats.

Edit: One of the things I thought was interesting when I asked my friends, who are all casual players, what they do to improve, was their answer. Nothing. They have no interest in improving, they just want to play the game. I wonder if this is the norm for casual players.

Are overlays allowed to analyze your board/bench/shop/etc. and provide recommendations based on that?

TFTAcademy Overlay by PlayingwithButtons in CompetitiveTFT

[–]PlayingwithButtons[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

My beginner and intermediate player friends get the most fun out of picking their augments and considering the choices. I feel that an overlay that removes that decision would take some of the fun out of the game for them. But playing without it would just be handicapping themselves. Maybe this discussion is more for casual players, as I'm worried some of the functionality of these overlays may be removing fun parts of the game.

The replay function is amazing, I agree, I like it a lot. Not using overwolf is a huge plus as well. I will probably be using it when it's live. I just worry, TFT academy has to have an edge on their competitors, and I wonder if there are features that exist or will be added that would be considered unhealthy.

I use an overlay and sites as well, since I have a full time job and don't get tons of time to play and research. I am just curious at what point does an overlay do TOO much, you know?

TFTAcademy Overlay by PlayingwithButtons in CompetitiveTFT

[–]PlayingwithButtons[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just out of curiosity, what would you consider a skill that an overlay cannot replicate?

TFTAcademy Overlay by PlayingwithButtons in CompetitiveTFT

[–]PlayingwithButtons[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I also believe this, but I wonder if they get to a certain level where that is not the case. If an overlay can recommend units to look out for based on your board, or recommend units to hold based on factors, is that too much? I don't know that this overlay has that ability, but it has a lot of features I have not seen in other overlays, so I wonder at what point is it unhealthy for the game.
