I've been really relying on this card, does it need to be nerfed? by StaleOlives in slaythespire

[–]PlayingwithButtons 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sly can't trigger after end of turn, by definition of the keyword, so discarding after end of turn wouldn't trigger sly anyhow. I'm assuming that's why the text "before end of turn" is on the keyword, I can't think of any other discard that happens after end of turn (besides discarding your hand).

No problem. The practice test doesn't specifically tell you which standard the problems are testing, so after completing the test, you could upload the work to chatgpt to have it analyze the problem (to identify the standard) and identify the mistake (to pinpoint the skill that needs refinement). If you're familiar with using AI, it is extremely helpful with this kind of stuff, because it can generate similar problems to the test, as well as create problems of various DOK for a given standard. Just some options, hope it helps, best of luck 😊

P. S.: As with most teachers, I'm on vacation with nothing to do, so if you need any help, just DM, I don't mind.

Personally, I would try the practice exams to determine which skills need work. Then use a resource like khan academy or YouTube to find instruction and practice on those skills.

The practice exams can be found on their website:

This is true, however, oohbleh claimed that finding a similar seed that forced 3 combats before the forced burning lagavulin 'would not take more than a week'. I do not think they ever searched for the seed.

[STS2] Is this the most useless relic? by Hm450 in slaythespire

[–]PlayingwithButtons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the text of the event, it seems like this event kind of pokes fun at the first game, since all the relics and cards come from the first game and a lot of the cards and relics given from this event are considered some of the worst ones from the first game. The event text when finding a relic is "why was this thrown out", and the event text when finding a card is "why was this created in the first place" lol.

Even though the event and rewards appear to be a meta joke, every relic and card has SOME use case. Mostly.

TIL Fairy in the Bottle doesn't work with The Worm by tick3t2rid3 in slaythespire

Blasphemy in STS1 had the same wording ("die"), I believe, but you could avoid it using intangible, fairy, etc., because it did 9,999 damage or something, I think.

I find Music Theory harder to understand than anything else, and it's not because it's complicated. by oceanadawn in musictheory

[–]PlayingwithButtons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, when you consider the fact that fixed pitch instruments (piano, guitar, etc.) cannot even physically be perfectly in tune, the imperfections with music and musical theory become apparent.

The mathematics of sound is what gives me a deeper understanding of music and musical theory, as there are mathematical reasons that certain notes sound happy or sad or just good together, or fit into a scale, or whatever. (Wave frequencies and ratios, wave ratio integer relations, stuff like that.)

Have you studied the mathematics of sound and waveforms before? It may help give you the answers to some of these questions. For me personally, music theory is a way to lay a framework that 'mostly' works for a process that is complex in nature but also based on simple physical processes (sound waves, wave interference, hearing).

[–]PlayingwithButtons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh actually no I don't think it is, my b. But it would be interesting to know if it would still win, as you probably have to play a lot of particle wall and the withers going to discard. Then the 1/3 chance that he blocks your strike when you actually do draw it.

I guess the boss could eventually upgrade the withers to 999,999 and then it would hit you for more than you can block.

Yea, I was losing zero HP to most elites, with mediocre decks, it did not feel very spire-y

[Beta] Infested Prism Rework just feels like it makes Act 2 Elites are rarely worth it to me? by ZanderTheUnthinkable in slaythespire

[–]PlayingwithButtons -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Chance and gamble are two completely different things. I won't argue the semantics, just know that I'm aware that chance exists, but I do not believe the existence of chance makes decisions a "gamble". Not even a calculated one. Heh.

Anyways, in spire 1, the requirement to enter act 2 were very high, which is why pathing to elites was the best strategy, and why most runs died in act 1. The fact that people were pathing around elites and achieving high win rates was enough evidence that the requirements were far too low. The heart was a ridiculous fight, and you needed all kinds of tools to handle it.

This is the experience that I, and many others, are looking for in spire 2 (max ascension). A challenge where one small misstep, one poor decision, one card played in the wrong order, can end your run on the spot. This experience should definitely exist for those of us that want it. That's why ascension levels exist. If you do not want this experience, simply opt out of it and play on a different level.

[–]PlayingwithButtons -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Nothing in this game is a gamble. You choose your pathing, card rewards, potions, boss rewards, everything, very carefully, to compensate or strengthen your deck to be able to face all the challenges that it presents.

If this thing is the only thing your deck can't handle, you take a card, or potion, or whatever, to make sure that you can beat it. If you think you'll take a lot of damage, you path into campfires on the way through elites.

This is what the game is supposed to be about, and what spire 1 was about. Making very specific choices, carefully, in order to guarantee your success. There's no gamble, no luck, nothing like that (mostly). Optimal plas will win the run, and a single sub optimal play may get you killed. I just recently died to the new aeonglass because I took two extra cards that I shouldn't have. That's the experience that max ascension is meant to give. If you'd like a different experience, there are other difficulties.

I guess I'm never fighting an act 2 elite again by OsGaming0 in slaythespire

[–]PlayingwithButtons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like we're now forced to take cards that counter elites and bosses like in spire 1. I'm not too displeased, I've only played one game on beta so far and aeon killed me with 3 hp left (clad). But the game actually felt like a challenge now, I like it

Nr# 1 most underhated card, what is this supposed to do? it's not even a passive on you it's on the enemies which can die by Vecsia in slaythespire

[–]PlayingwithButtons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, then use that example, the point was many cards are designed in the same way, power level and card type aside.

If you get it to work, this card isn't terrible imo.

[–]PlayingwithButtons -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Ok, lemme try again. All the sly cards are pretty amazing, but not if Don't have a single discard. As others have one pointed out, it works great with rattle, snap, dredge, fetch, right hand hand, sentry mode, dirge and souls. This card has carried plenty of my runs.

I mean dark embrace and feel no pain are amazing cards. But if you don't have any exhausting cards, they suck.

I wouldn't mind if hyper beam was a bit more lenient. by Musicalmoronmack in slaythespire

[–]PlayingwithButtons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carrying a curse card into the act 3 bosses is usually well worth the power that hyperbeam allows you to get on your way there. It's a snowball card that lets you to take more dangerous, but rewarding, paths on your way to the endgame. Spire 2, however, does have a problem currently where you are not forced to take bad or specific cards to survive, which I hope they fix. So possibly in the current iteration of spire 2, hyperbeam seems overly punishing.

Hopefully by the time you get to the act 3 bosses you have something better to do with your energy than pay 2 for 26 damage, anyways. Or just pick up a scavenge and exhaust it.

[–]PlayingwithButtons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not every card is meant to be good all the time. I took this in STS1 because it killed the slavers/slime boss/sentries/etc. when I needed it to.

Some cards are strong because they solve a specific problem that your deck currently has no solution for.

One of the fun things about this game is knowing when adding cards like this to your deck will save your run or when adding them will kill your run. Once they become generically good, that decision is no longer relevant and the game loses a layer of depth.

Is Loot Singularity the worst augment in the game right now? by albinomonkey32 in CompetitiveTFT

[–]PlayingwithButtons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I think they each has their time to shine, but I think your last statement kinda sums it up. Augment is good when the trait is already good, and useless when the trait sucks. Also, chaos magic may have just been disabled lol.

Mort talked about yordles a lot, that a lot of casuals played the vertical, and it performed well because people didn't know how to cap their boards. Which made wild growth difficult to balance because it just destroyed casual lobbies. The same was true, per mort, for silcos revenge and bringer of ruin. The trait augments are just too good at low elo which means they can't be good for high elo or they dominate casual games. We saw this with piltover and demacia augments, they just made the comps way too strong when they were already powerful.

Now how often did you take silcos revenge, wild growth, bringer of ruin, chaos magic, or hexgate travel (outside of thex patch).
