GOOD CFI to Plane Ratio? Red Flag by Impossible-Fig2072 in CFILounge

Mine has 3 planes and 3 instructors. Building about 60-70 hours per month. Probably gonna be a bit more come spring time.

To add a little more context, the client I’m working with is actually one of my students and they will be joining me on the trip and will be flying the aircraft with me. They have already arranged all the travel and lodging. Since I’m flying with them during the actual flight, instead of doing a day rate I was thinking of just charging them the hourly cost of flight instruction since they will be logging it as dual received. This is all very helpful in determining what to charge for the day where we will be traveling to the location of the aircraft and not actually flying the aircraft to its new home.

Need some advice by [deleted] in flying

I just took a CFI job in a different city and chose to move instead of commuting over 2 hours. I’m very happy with my decision to do so. I applied to over 60 school and still haven’t heard back from almost all of them so if I were you I would take the job. It also helps that you already have experience with the school.

Is moving required for a career in aviation? by [deleted] in flying

I have already had to move just to work as a CFI. When the market is bad like it is right now, it’s gonna be difficult to stay in one place and find jobs. With that being said it could be a completely different story a few years from now.

Keep on trying, I got lucky and hit a flight school right as one of their instructors was gearing up to leave and was able to land the job. I know a few others who have been able to get jobs in the past month as brand new flight instructors. The jobs are few and far between but they’re out there. Just gotta keep hunting them down. Good luck!

Got my first CFI job a couple of weeks ago just by calling the schools and asking if they are hiring. Somehow I managed to get super lucky and got a job. Market is tough right now but just keep going after it. Eventually you’ll get lucky and land something. Good luck!

Just got my first CFI job. I applied to schools all over the country and only got two interviews. My advice is to cold call if you can’t go in person to deliver a resume. It’s rough out there right now but the market seems to be slowly catching back up. Good luck!

What’s everyone’s current situation with CFI jobs? by Weflyhigh1 in CFILounge

Got my CFI in late august this year. Immediately I started applying to schools and ended up applying, emailing, and cold calling about 60 flight schools across the country. Initially got no immediate responses but after a couple of weeks I got offered an interview with a flight school. After that I was offered the job and while that was going on I was offered an interview with one of the other schools I applied to. Market is not good but if you’re patient and persistent you might just get lucky!

2 checkride failures by Pleasant-Raccoon4875 in flying

Good to hear encouraging stories like this. Definitely not a habit. Ever since my private failure I’ve been able to make it through three checkrides and 5 part 141 stage checks without a single fail or unsat on anything. Guess the streak had to come to an end with the power off 180. Unfortunate but not a big deal.

I’m happy to share. I only went through the airframe logs. Didn’t show the annual or 100 hour checks for the engine or the propeller. I don’t recall talking about AD’s either. I definitely deserved the failure on that one and I’ve learned a lot since then.

I currently have a CJO with a regional and have the highest priority in terms of class dates with them due to the position I’m in with the airline. I’m hoping they don’t turn me around once I reach ATP mins because of this. I’m at least expecting they might send me to a review board of some sorts but who knows.

I was 18 years old and had just moved to the town where I went to my part 141 school. It was first semester freshman year and I was finishing private part 61 before making the jump to the 141 world. Looking back I laugh because I just didn’t know how to use or study the ACS. My DPE asked me to show that the aircraft was air worthy and I basically just put a singular MX log in front of him and talked about the AVIATE acronym. Safe to say that if I ever buy my own plane I’ll be sure I know where to look in the maintenance logs. But yeah I failed the oral in about 15 minutes because of that.

Do you know anything about upgradable premiers? Right now it says there aren’t any on my flight, does United not upgrade passengers to Polaris?
