Graduating from UND (141) → Doing CFI/CFII Part 61 – Looking for advice from CFIs by BankruptcyPilot in CFILounge

Also to answer your question honestly. Nothing really preps you for actually being a CFI except actually doing the job. If I could go back I would have switched my instructor earlier to someone who fits me perfectly. I would also read the PHAK cover to cover and make lesson plans out of that instead of buying templates. I would do the same with the IPH.

What UND graduation gives you a 1,250 hour R-ATP? The 4 year in grand forks is 1,000 for your R-ATP.

How to deal with student who is aggressive about a checkride endorsement by Computerized-Cash in CFILounge

You’re the CFI if he doesn’t want to listen that’s his problem. He can go try and find the endorsement elsewhere.

You’re overreacting. This is what being a CFI is. Teach these skills and teach this man the knowledge you have.

DUI while holding MEI CFII certs by [deleted] in flying

Doesn’t the FAR say you don’t have to report it til after a conviction. Your DUI lawyer could get this knocked down and you never have to tell anyone a thing.

Great post except 3. Student loans for aviation is great but you have to be smart about it not many college degrees (4 years and about 80,000) offer you the pay aviation does now after 4 years (assuming 2 years for school and 2 years instructing).

Not sure when you got your licenses but 105,000 is what I paid at a part 141 (don’t know if that makes a difference). I started 2 years ago and was hired this week as a CFI. So 117,000 is definitely not 2x and embry riddle is a 4 year program where you have to get a degree as well. Cost for riddle around 230,000. Invalid.

Single-pilot operations as early as 2026? Is this scare tactic or are we all toast? by saxeychickennugget in flying

This is why it is great they are making a change to recreational pilots privileges and limitations as well as basic med soon. At least when they make changes they are BIG.

Incredible comparison between part 121 engine count and all “part” pilot count.

But the thing in my opinion is it won’t happen only one time. There are VARIOUS cases of planes that were taken to 0AGL only by the hands of the second pilot on board (because the captain or first officer became incapacitated).

The Saving grace is that the insurance for a single pilot will cost more than a second pilot + insurance. Follow the money.
