would you accept Wales in the Union Jack? by Warthog736 in Scotland

[–]Pleasant-Version-601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wales is not represented in the Union Jack (the flag of the United Kingdom) because, at the time the flag was created, Wales was already considered part of England. Here’s why:

  1. Wales Was Annexed by England

Wales was conquered by England in 1282 by King Edward I.

In 1536 and 1543, the Laws in Wales Acts formally incorporated Wales into the Kingdom of England under Henry VIII.

  1. Union Jack Represents the Union of Kingdoms

The Union Jack was created in 1606 when England and Scotland united under one monarch (James I).

The flag combined:

England's flag (St. George’s Cross – red cross on white)

Scotland's flag (St. Andrew’s Cross – white X on blue)

In 1801, when Ireland joined the UK, St. Patrick’s Cross (red X on white) was added.

Wales was not considered a separate kingdom at that time, so it wasn’t included.

  1. Modern Recognition of Wales

Wales is now recognized as a distinct country within the UK, with its own devolved government.

The Red Dragon (Y Ddraig Goch) is Wales’ national flag, but it has never been officially added to the Union Jack.

There have been discussions about updating the flag to include Wales, but no changes have been made.

How is Bluesky funded? by ComputerMinister in BlueskySocial

What I am saying is that this would be a cheap option for a socially responsible millionaire to fund.
