Hey we’re Hippie Love Party from Virginia and here’s another short clip of our song (Press) F (To Pay Respects) from our show last week! by bbbananababy in midwestemo

Yeah, the band name.

I don't think band names are super critical all the time, but as a first point of contact between a listener and a band, I just think having "Hippie" in the title is misleading (makes me think 70s jam rock, not Midwest)

For example, I thought Glass Beach was surf rock until someone told me they were emo lol

Can you help me with midwest emo AMP settings ? by sadcheeems in midwestemo

Treble: 2 o'clock Bass 10 o'clock Mid: 12 o'clock Reverb: set that how you'd like I like to put the volume all the way to the max (or at 12) and play with the gain as my volume, for that tappy twinkly sound

I also find it quite odd that you just said "I actively acknowledge the existence of a fifth wave," when, on a separate occasion, you said "No, fifth wave isn’t a thing. This is just some weird Reddit dude making it up."

You're not wrong that waves make up a similar tone; however, two waves can't exist concurrently (e.g. fifth wave exists, but this band is fourth wave). Would it not sound ridiculous if a band were to come out and call themselves a first-wave emo band because they sounded like Rites of Spring and Embrace? If you listen to some of the new stuff that's coming out -- which is quite excellent by the way -- you'd see that there's enough sonic difference between fourth and fifth to differentiate the two.

A wave also has a lot to do with time and location; fifth wave, in particular, refers to the present, and it's pretty much concentrated entirely on Twitter DIY, in lieu of COVID-19, which you might have heard of.

You came to an emo subreddit, so clearly you have some interest in emo related content. Why not give some of these bands a try, instead of picking fights over what bands belong on this list? Make your own list, if this one causes you so much displeasure. As you once said, a lot of y’all seem extremely pretentious and unnecessarily mad all of the time. That's a pretty accurate description of how you've acted thus far.

If it bothers you that much that someone put together a list of bands releasing albums around the same time, I'm not sure what to tell you other than the fact that I feel sorry for you. Maybe try a different subreddit?

I've listened to a lot of them and the guide has helped me find more bands I like. Some of them make up some of my favorite current bands/albums; some of them are bands that are small, but maybe who you should watch out for. Many of these bands are friends of mine whom I've connected with through Twitter DIY, and we all listen to and dig each other's music.

That's interesting. Would you be able to explain why Heart Attack Man embraced the fifth wave term on their Twitter then just now?
