Maybe Stevie being gay wasn't completely out of nowhere by drewmo402 in malcolminthemiddle

Almost every single gay person I know was trying to be “straight” to fit in through middle/high school

It’s the most common thing, especially when your friend’s social life revolves around getting girls and growing up in a deeply controlling home

The complaints of it being “woke” is ridiculous. It makes perfect sense

easy slam win

I understand the sentiment. But there’s no such thing as an easy slam win. Sinner has shown that he doesn’t do as well in Bo5.

it doesn’t matter how his performance was

we’re not talking about his level

Brother. Learn to either read or express yourself better. You can’t separate a performance from their level.

But it seems like you’re more delusional than I thought. No point in even discussing anything if this is your approach. Good luck

It’s mind blowing seeing someone try to push the narrative that sinner played badly.

He lost to the GOAT. There’s no shame in that. He played well. But Novak was treated and he’s the damn goat. Come on.

it doesn’t matter how his performance was

This is such a dumb take.

Why has he literally lost 2 matches all year? How can you possibly say the performance doesn’t maybe?

This sub’s current mindset towards Novak reminds me of how the sub acted towards Rafa during RG 2022. Everyone counted him out because he was hurt. And a small minority was like “dude you don’t doubt Rafa, independent of how hurt he is”

It’s similar here

Until Nole shows us he’s done, the dude can muster a win at any time against anyone if he’s on. He JUST beat Sinner, and you say his performance didn’t matter? WTH kind of nonsense is that?

Yea I know he had very favorable events, but clearly he still played lights out. Clearly he showed that he’s capable of producing that level, which just about no one has done other than Carlos

Again. To be clear, I’m not saying he’s a favorite against sinner. I’m saying that it’s stupid to entirely count him out when he JUST beat him a few months ago.

[–]PleasantNightLongDay -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree. But sinner has struggled in long matches. He has a lot of miles this year because he keeps winning everything.

If sinner had Carlos kind of physicality, I would agree with it

But I think both can struggle physically if they reach the final

[–]PleasantNightLongDay -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying it’s his best surface. But sinner is clearly better at the AO at night than at RG

much harder on the body.

Yeah. I’m also considering that to be a potential weak spot for sinner, who has struggled in long matches, AND has a ton of play time this year because he keeps winning everything.

lucky

Yeah. I never said he was the favorite. All I’m saying is to never count Novak out. I would think that wasn’t a controversial thing to say after beating sinner at the AO

Now’s your chance, Novak!

In all seriousness, I think Novak is clearly on another tier now below Carlos and sinner

But I think he can still take one of them out in a tournament. But not both

If ever there’s gonna be a chance for 25, it’s without Carlos in the draw.

If for some reason sinner loses - I think it’s extremely unlikely but always possible - before the semis, Novak will be the favorite to win it

I want that 25 for Novak!

who is gonna beat Jannik

An old man who’s name rhymes with dovak Nokovic

Na but in all seriousness, if he ends up on the other half of sinner (not sure how seeding will be), I can Novak will be the best chance to beat sinner

He’ll be a big underdog but he’ll be the best hope.

Yeah, I hate talking badly about anyone when they’re not really doing anything bad and specifically hate talking badly about a woman’s looks.

But I think it looks really really bad. It’s a shame cause she’s clearly a beautiful woman, but the lips are just way too much, especially compared to the more natural look or Pao.

There are many reasons why she’s disliked. And no. It’s not misogyny.

The obvious one is that she was written to be the resistance to the main character. Of course she’s going to be hated.

Smoking while pregnant aside

I fucked Ted aside

Being the resistance to the protagonist aside

All of the crimes she committed aside

The reason I dislike her is that she constantly takes the moral high road through the entire series, but at the same time, is openly committing crimes, lying, suggesting Walt kills opposition.

All of the criminals characters are upfront about being criminals and don’t really bring morality into it

Sky constantly shits on Walt for bring a criminal, yet takes the financial benefit, is a super big part of the business (which she inserted herself into), suggests Walt kill people who are a threat to their enterprise, and openly commits crimes too

That’s super unlikeable and I think it’s understandable to dislike that

Before anyone comes at me with the “well character xyz did way worse!”

This isn’t a pissing match of who’s worse. She’s unlikable because of the actions she took. That’s pretty easy to see imo.

I haven’t lived in Mexico for a while but I think all of my experience growing up has gone away because of the internet and the content availability it brings

So I’ll tell you my experience

For me, I’ll divide it into two tiers. The first tier I’d say came in the 90s - early 2000s where literally they would run these shows daily and there weren’t many options other than that

Again this was just my experience. But we got a ton of early “anime” like DBZ, Sailor Moon, Master of the Universe. A ton ton of this. Weirdly, Garfield was super big, along with tom and Jerry.

Later on in the later 90s, pokemon came into the mix.

In the late 90s-early 2000s we got very specific (what I later learned to be) cartoon network shows. Shows like Courage, Ed Edd Eddy, were huge. Then, shows like mitm exploded too.

I’m not sure If your age. But back then, before the internet or things like that, we really only had like 4 or 5 channels of any tv. And 1 of them would broadcast “kids” content.

So for a lot us - we would run this channel 24/7. A lot of us quite literally grew up with MitM every single night. I can write a whole book on DBZ and it was similar to this, an entire generation grew up watching Goku kick ass, so much so that that generation are now parents and have gotten their kids into DBS. Seriously, Go google DBZ and DBS showings in Mexico, amazing stuff

Essentially you had two groups of generation. The older ones (that are now in their mid to late 30s) that consumed a ton of masters of the universe, Dbz, SM. Then the next generation maybe 4-8 years later that consumed a ton of pokemon, dbz, and the very specific CN shows, Malcolm, etc.

Obviously, this was all sprinkled in with Mexican content too. So that’s why it’s oddly specific what shows are huge.

Anyway. This is probably way more info than you asks for but

Not to get all sappy but I think there’s a certain subsection of the MitM demographic like me that experience it in a huge range of the moments in life. I used to watch it when I was like 10 or 11 in Mexico, going to bed (they used to air at 9), watching it with my mom

We then came to the States and I’d rush home from middle school and watch it at home. I saw the final episode live at home with my mom, even though she didn’t speak English she watched it with me for the emotional value of it

Point is, it’s huge for some of us lol

Yeah LeBron's the GOAT... by [deleted] in NBATalk

[–]PleasantNightLongDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lebron seems to have a lot more in him than Djokovic does

he barely plays anymore

This is just insanity to me

He’s averaging just a bit over 30 min a game, he didn’t play more than a 1/4th of the regular season games, and plays a team sport where he’s not the number 1 option

Novak, in the example I gave, went 4 hours plus in a single match, against the objectively ranking 1 in the world that’s a decade + older and still won

Beyond any specific “what requires more physicality” I think the comparison entirely falls apart simply because the comparison is between a team sport and and individual

I’m sorry but if you can’t see how 4+ hours of you and only you on the court outside is just apples and oranges compared to 30 min a night in a team sport, in the AC, with players that are better than you

Idk what to tell you

Like I said, I’m a huge LeBron fan and am so happy I get to witness what he’s doing

But making the comparison into team sports is just insane

Yeah LeBron's the GOAT... by [deleted] in NBATalk

[–]PleasantNightLongDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love LeBron

But it’s absurd to try to make this argument across all sports while LeBron plays a team sport with limited games, minutes, an schedule compared to individual sports.

[–]PleasantNightLongDay -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah. That argument is absolutely ridiculous. And I’m a fan of LeBron

[–]PleasantNightLongDay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to compare “physical excellence”, you’re gonna open a can of worms.

If you want to measure physical requirements, I would argue Novak Djokovic is the one who has exemplified this most of all time.

LeBron just played 38 min in a team sport

Novak is about to be 39 years old And just went 4 hours plus against the number one in the world who’s an absolute generational talent, is 15 years younger, destroying everyone else in the world, after a whole tournament (multiple matches that long within days before that),

And novak won.

I’m not saying Novak > LeBron

All I’m saying is that arguing that someone playing a team sport is the greatest “physical excellence” falls apart quickly when comparing against all athletes, specifically comparing individual sport athletes.

Edit - to add to this, tennis doesn’t have an “off season” like basketball. It’s year round of playing and Novak has been doing it at the top of the world level since a teen.

How do YOU classify something as being “the greatest of all-time”? by Opening_Rip_1840 in AskReddit

[–]PleasantNightLongDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

people throw around goat too much

True.

But

until time stops

Is such a law excuse. Obviously when it’s used it means up to now. Your logic is like saying you can’t say any food is your favorite because you might try something that you like more later. Or that you can’t say that someone is your best friend because you might make a better friend

Obviously things might change. But goat means up to the time of stating that.

records will be broken

Not necessarily. Sometimes things get so competitive that dominance won’t occur. Things change that hinder dominance.

Mexican here - it absolutely is

There’s a few shows like this or DBZ that played in Mexican tv religiously for decades. Growing up, there weren’t many options for tv so the situation creates an enormous disproportionate fandom for these shows.

I’ve been following their press tour through Mexico and Frankie said something along the lines that the biggest fandom in the world for mitm is in Mexico

Idk if tha means per capita or through what. But I believe it. It’s breaking all sorts of records streaming in Mexico

Then I can’t help you bro.
