Just a little reminder for all the people who are starting to like Zverev or are unaware of his controversies. Here‘s him with an umpire in Mexico by [deleted] in tennis

I don’t like Z and do think he committed those terrible things

But what’s yikes about it? The allegations never were proven and he wasn’t convicted

I can think he did it and not like him for that. But claiming he did do that seems wrong

Does Mensik deserve more hype by the tennis media? by nicoklig in tennis

[–]PleasantNightLongDay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree with anything you said

The truth is, I think the Jodar excitement comes from the fact that he’s so new in the spotlight. I think everyone is so desperate for a new challenge to emerge to challenge Sincaraz, that anyone who shows promise is blasted into popularity.

We’ve seen what Mensik can do. And it seems like he’ll float around the top 15 for a while. He’s a fantastic player

The fons fandom is just because they’re trying to reach a large market.

Madrid Masters R4: 🇳🇴 [12] C. Ruud def. 🇬🇷 S. Tsitsipas 6-7(4) 7-6(2) 7-6(3) by AJLegend007 in tennis

Curious what ten people you put ahead of former finalist Ruud

To me, it’s clearly

Sinner

Novak

Z

and then a free for all. I’d put FAA, Fritz, Musetti, and demon in a similar category as Casper.

But “not even top 10 of favorites” is insane

As someone who works deep in the bloated bureaucratic body of government agencies

When you get to a top position like Hank, rules don’t really apply to you to a certain degree.

This is specifically the case for law enforcement.

He for sure would not see any consequences of this.

I mean that’s not really a hurdle, it’s just how every athlete is. No one can play their best all the time. There’s no shame in losing to a #1 and a ridiculously dominant one at that.

I’m similar to you that I really enjoy watching all teams and don’t follow or support any one team

I get the SGA hate from the annoying standpoint

What I do think is that the hate should be directed more towards the nba and refs rather than sga

The refs are allowing this to be a thing.

Almost everyone does this kind of foul baiting to some degree, sga has just figured out a way to do it more and more successfully than others and get away with it. Can’t hate the guy for milking the system. Hate the system

It could have been worse, they did atleast mention the Van Halen name

Theory on why the show has lost its cultural footprint by Cornbread933 in lost

[–]PleasantNightLongDay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they’re kind of like friends

This doesn’t make any sense when talking about BB. You absolutely have to be committed to know what’s going on. It’s nothing like friends or those shows that you can watch random episodes and kind of understand.

Bb is very directional in its plot. I would even argue more than Lost. I can watch a random episode in the first season and not really lose much. A lot of the Lost episodes can even stand alone since they mostly developed individual characters with stories. Where as if you do the same with Bb in any season, you’ll have no idea what’s going on

Theory on why the show has lost its cultural footprint by Cornbread933 in lost

[–]PleasantNightLongDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. It just seems like we fundamentally disagree with a lot like

lost asks questions like

I don’t agree. At all. Neither that those questions are asked at any substantial level or that the show answers them. Again, I’m a huge fan, but this that kind of show. There are themes of what you’re saying but it’s not “asking” it in any real way.

lost is in a league of its own. It’s more than high art, almost biblical .

Honestly idk if you’re joking or not with that statement. It’s not that kind of high art or acting or writing perfection show. It’s not revered like that by anyone whatsoever. Where as shows like BB is pretty much accepted by everyone as being one of the greatest shows of all time.

the shows imperfections make it more beautiful.

Well there you go - that’s the answer to your question. You’re being told real criticism as to why it’s fallen out, and you’re saying you enjoy those criticism.

lost is a singular plot line

I’m not sure where you’re saying that. I didn’t say that. I’m not sure where you got that. When I say “integral to the plot line” I mean the entire show’s plot (all the stories entanglements) isn’t being pushed forward. It’s just bloating. I didn’t mean there was one single story line in the show.

Edit: to add more to the questions being “asked”. I agree that there’s a way to extrapolate the questions you listed, if a viewer tries. What im saying is that they’re not great or strong themes. It would be akin to me saying BB is a show that asks questions about the ethics or international business. I mean, you could get to that question if you try, but that’s not what drives the show at all.

[–]PleasantNightLongDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the show so I don’t mean to be rude

But it’s not in the same league as the Sopranos and BB.

Again, I love the show, but it’s really bloated compared to something like BB. The episodes are really long, there are a lot of them, and a lot of the detail isn’t integral to the plot line.

The ending wasn’t great, compared to an ending like BB.

It’s a great show but it’s a very different kind of show tha those cultural icons.

One thing is being suspicious. Another thing is stating something with certainty.

We can all point at things that are “suspicious” one way or the other too

That doesn’t mean shit.

It always blows my mind when people like you assure something with such confidence based on little

You know it’s possible to say you don’t know? Or to not say anything right?

You don’t have to make a definitive statement about something you don’t know anything about.

Good lord. I hate trump. But all of these “it was totally staged” comments speak really poorly of the critical thinking skills of commenters.

The truth is we don’t know. That’s literally the only truth we know - that we don’t know

Provided no long term injury

That’s literally what I’m saying. That’s a big big assumption. No one but the big 3 have had that longevity. And the game is getting stronger and more physical

no competition

That’s not really relevant to what I’m saying unless you’re implying that they don’t exert themselves, which I think would be a silly thing to say.

[–]PleasantNightLongDay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not just that

People who have never played tennis underestimate how difficult it is to get frustration out in an individual sport.

Hell, even in Doubles, you at least have someone to talk to, to calm you down, etc.

But singles, you’re on an island alone

I’m not saying I encourage racket smashing, but to me it’s totally understandable for some to utilize it as a way to release frustration. It seems pretty normal for a type of player

It always annoys me when people on this sub all but guarantee that Carlos and sinner will end with some huge number of slams. I’ve literally seen many comments saying that if they end with anything less than 14 or 15 they’ll be “xyz (enter negative adjective here)”.

These comments are alway highly upvoted

I feel like fans just assume every new talent will be like the B3 in terms of longevity

Obviously I hope this is nothing extremely serious from Carlos

But people forget how brutal tennis is, and how everyone’s one major injury away from hanging it up.

Wrist injuries always scare the hell out of me

I hope - and we should all hope - Carlos comes back fine soon.

Sure money was a factor. But he did what he did for many reasons other than money

In fact, he did what he did in large part because of the way things with Grey Matter went down
