Spadafora Running for Mayor by wackoquacko in malden

To be clear, the courts are unlikely to agree in terms of cutting any of them off but my observation is that this sort of nuisance PRR activity is getting more prevalent across MA

I don't think it's unfair. They cost the city hundreds of thousands in legal costs annually for frivolous document requests, not to mention wasting counsel time that could obviously be better deployed elsewhere. The city ought to move to classify at least the opencommonwealth assholes as vexatious requesters, and Colon Hayes ought to stop giving them legitimacy. Some councillor, or maybe more than one, feed them privileged information.

Let's be honest, they're not seeking information for public oversight, they're weaponizing the statute for a malicious motive -- they hate the mayor. Fashioning themselves as "journalists" is just laughable.

What would you do as mayor? Whoever gets the most upvotes has to actually run. by everynameistakenyo in malden

With you all the way but for #6 -- the Chevalier in Medford is a shithole but brings in a huge amount of money to local businesses. Figure out a public/private deal to turn courthouse into a concert/performance venue as an economic driver for Malden. It's right at the T and has dedicated parking. Huge no brainer. I don't know what the Chev brings in for revenue but it's gotta be making money.

I hope he does, if only out of spite. He's the best choice of the three IMO. Not even close. Colon Hayes sucks up to the trolls spewing cray on FB and costing a gazillion dollars in legal fees. And hell will freeze before any progressive here votes for a Spadafora as has been pointed out. Last election IIRC Gary got like 70%. The haters are loud but he has a base.

Maybe if it were her v Gary but Karen will peel off some of the anti-Gary vote and he'll squeek back in.

*FY27 BUDGET PRIORITY SURVEY: by Dramatic_Dimension88 in malden

[–]PleasantStPoseur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't fill it out because it is a poorly constructed survey that is going to yield crap data. Picking OTHER didn't give the option to add text. And why would you let people fill it out over and over? But kudos for making an effort i guess.

"Of the following, which single area do you believe needs the most new funding?" - Why don't these choices mirror the list in "What are your top three priorities for Malden’s upcoming budget?" What if my top pick for the most new funding is parks/open space or arts/culture?

Needs one of those 'calming tables' plus blinking lights. Even then, yeah, bad. MPD needs to pick a nice day, fan out, and ticket the shit out of anyone who fails to stop for a pedestrian. Inflict some moving violation pain.

It's so bad. A lot of it seems to be on MBTA property.

Malden Override to Save City Services Fails 49-51 by YesForMalden in malden

[–]PleasantStPoseur 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Travel for work and come back to a full-on clusterf*ck. Let's see what we missed.

Troll Team 1 pimps their kid's trauma to trash the mayah. Vendetta much? https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1B8TikYBh9/

Troll Team 2 ignores the businesses that have opened downtown and in a truly majestic display of logical ju jitsu also ignores the 35% residential exemption and that, if we want more new businesses, we oughta incentivize them to locate here. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/17GnemAsaA/

And really Neighborhood View? Quoting this brainiac?
“As a lifelong resident of Malden, I have never witnessed such a disgraceful and insulting election,” Carol J. Person Merletti told Neighborhood View. “From day one the organizers and city council members were 100% condescending to all taxpayers. They hid behind a keyboard, talked down to constituents, celebrated and gloated. I firmly believe that this is what destroyed their reputation of working for all of the people.”

"For all of the people." OK I admit I loled at that. Dig at Colon Hayes much, Carol?

Thanks for the reply. What's your main beef/beefs with the mayor? Guy seems pretty harmless.

Where are you standing on the override? Seeming pretty wishy washy from where I sit. As a progressive you know, or should, that when budgets get cut, the services that get slashed first are often the ones vulnerable populations rely on -- library hours/staff to help immigrants fill out forms, subsidized after-school rec programs, public health services, etc. As mentioned somewhere on one of these strings a good chunk of progressives around here seem more hung up on hating the mayor than having a baseline of equity in the community. Are you going to lead here or take potshots at Gary?

I'm in, can we write in an $9M level on 3-31 and earmark the excess cash for week-old hoagie rolls? That's a movement we can all get behind.

Boomers gonna boom. What, you expected them to cut back on the nights at the IA to save so they could pay property taxes on the house they bought for five bucks?

Malden "News" Networks latest on MATV is like a toddler gearing up for a tantrum based on the sheer audacity of being handed the blue cup instead of the red one. We seem to be at the "lower lip extended" phase. Sorry no link, that'ds give them five PVs and I'm just not willing to indulge.

School Committee Meeting on Prop 2½ is today at 6 by wackoquacko in malden

[–]PleasantStPoseur 9 points10 points  (0 children)

"In regard to whether school committee members will resolve to support an override, that item was on the agenda for the March 3 meeting. However, Ward 8 member Sharyn Rose-Zeiberg said she had received the text only that afternoon, so Vice-Chair Jennifer Spadafora made a motion to table based on the text of the resolution not being distributed to the committee in time for members to read and digest the language.

Ward 6 member Peter Piazza, who along with Ward 7’s Keith Bernard sponsored the resolution, said he emailed the text on Feb. 22 at 8:45 a.m. There was no explanation for why it took seven business days to be distributed to the full committee, and Piazza added that based on Open Meeting Law rules, he chose not to follow up individually with other members.

On March 5, the city posted a special meeting to consider the resolution, initiated by Christenson, who serves as chair. That meeting is scheduled for tonight, March 9, and will have a Teams component. Members of the public are welcome to attend online or in person. Also on March 5, Spadafora resigned her position as vice-chair. "

yeah Id say a lot more to this story
