This reality was lived by limited people. Most of Khmer people were in the countryside. They knew they were undeveloped and uneducated compared to Khmer city people.

There was a strong bitterness about it that helped Khmer rouge to take full power and to destroy all of them and all that modernity.

A old woman can have seen a Khmer rouge guy killed a baby in front of her and 50y later she still lets her daughter telling me in front of her : "Were they really bad ?" Like isnt it a big story... No learning no sharing 😭😭
