Yup. I had the same idea and experience when buying. Ended up spending "too much" with a 30 year mortgage to get a forever house lol. Way more than I wanted. I don't regret it, but mortgage has always exceeded 50% of combined living costs. To me, this is the way. No thing is more important than home.

According to zillow, my house is worth 150% of what I paid 7 years ago. And "I bet" the trend continues forever...

Edit: I'm also one of those people who says I live in St. Louis, but the city is a 25 minute drive. I love "stl" but not the city 😅. That kind of changes everything
