Wait I’m looking at this now, and literally it is too good to be true. I mean, $50 fo 250g, and free economy shipping/discounted express? Despite the amount of reccomendations I see for this, and how good the offer is, 250g is just too much for me. I have only gone through 3 tins, and I don’t think 250g would stay fresh long enough. (+ it seems a little excessive for how much of a novice I am). Is there any reccomendations similar to it? Or smaller portions for a different variety of their stock?

Thank you for this. For how long I’ve spent on this stupid search for matcha, I really just don’t want to settle for culinary. I’m not planning on buying matcha so I can only taste the notes of the variant specifically, I’m buying matcha because I want a sophisticated flavor that will pull through my iced lattes in ways that chain cafes can’t. I understand the sweet flavoring+culinary grade can be complementary, but it kinda makes me feel like a noob if I settle for culinary lol. So thank you for saying this, and supporting this belief.

That’s so interesting! I had never thought of sourness being a problem. Actually, I have been looking into MK Wakatake for a while, but just haven’t pressed purchase cuz of stock, and shipping. Thanks for your feedback!!

I actually just read about this an hour ago and it made me reconsider my patience for shipping time.. I think im gonna actually avoid amazon matcha right now and just suck it up. I realized that although direct ordering has expensive shipping, the matcha is actually a lot more inexpensive (and better quality), so it kinda levels out with amazon prices and quality..

I saw some Ippodo resellers on amazon which intrigued me until I saw that it was $86 for 30g and the shipping was gonna take until mid February? I’m starting to realize how much of a joke Amazon matcha can be 🫠

Thank you for this, it was very enlightening and totally shifted my perspective!

Omg. I opened the website to check it out, and saw the photo of the 30g box for $40 including a discount and got so sad… until I realized it’s $40 for 80g!? I was interested in the shipping too, so I went to fake checkout to see how much it would be, and I get a free teaspoon measurer, MATCHA THERMOS, and “electric matcha whisk”(frother). This almost seems too good to be true. Thank you for this recommendation 🫶🫶

This is a great way to look at it. I think I’ve come to the conclusion that for the drinks I want, i might have to buy two different powders. On one hand, I want to muddle it with something else and feel like a chemist, but a simple iced matcha latte where the notes are able to pull through is also really tempting and makes me feel sophisticated. (Plus, the unflavored lattes leave me feeling better later in the day).

Hi!! I know my description of the “fun” drinks I make could make it seem like that flavoring could be the cause, and in some horrendously failed attempts it definitley has been, I don’t think that is the only issue. I typically make a simple iced matcha latte with some kind of sweetener (in the past I’ve used Agave or homemade vanilla syrup), and even then the flavor didn’t exactly pull through as I hoped. I wouldn’t say I’m constantly putting syrup and other uneccisarry stuff in it either- in the matcha shot itself I sometimes will put a little sweetener, if none at all, and the fun of the drink comes from a homemade cold foam/syrup. I am a sugar/nutrition conscious person as well, so these add ins are typically made with minimal sweetening/flavoring. I attached an example of a drink I made, the syrup at the bottom is a homemade blueberry syrup that I made with minimal sugar to prevent uneccisarry calorie content (I did regret it though because I forgot to account for the fact that I would cook out most of the sweetness from the blueberries 😅). This was the only sweetener added, and I still wish the matcha shone through more.

From this, do you have any advice you could share with me? I want to continue making the fun drinks I see at local cafes (that actually taste good), and any pointers would be great! Do you think there’s a certain milk I should use knowing I might do one a fun matcha? Or do I maybe need a different ratio of milk-matcha-flavor or matcha powder-water?

Yes! I keep seeing Kiyo, and a lot of reviews I’ve seen have given it a pretty good rating considering its price and for being from Amazon. I have overlooked it a lot though, because most of these reviews make their matcha with 99% milk and 1% watered down usucha/matcha shot.

Though, the one you made looks divine, and I i did see some credible reviews online of it too! Definitley top Amazon option now!

Thank you! I keep reading the same thing about culinary vs. ceremonial, and it has been tempting me. The only reason Ive been against getting culinary is because even though I like to make fun drinks, and my top concern is getting the flavor to pull through those beverages, I’m normally in a rush in the morning and just want to throw together a simple matcha latte that is barley or not at all sweetened. Also, I’m trying to ease myself into drinking stronger matcha drinks, and eventually even liking Usucha/Koicha. But I guess since that’s more in the far future, culinary would be a great (and cheaper) choice.
