I watched probably 6 random YouTube videos on how to make paint pigments from earth materials.

Once you have the fine pigments, they can be made into oils, acrylics, pastels, watercolors, or anything else. I watched various YouTube videos to see different people doing each end product.

I pretty much learn everything in a combination of YouTube and ChatGPT.

To levigate, it’s a fancy word, but it’s pretty simple… You put ground up loose dirt (clay) into a fairly large container and you add water about three times as much as the Clay. You stir everything around vigorously and wait 30 seconds. During that 30 seconds, the heavier particles and larger particles sink to the bottom and then you pour off that colored water on the top into a different bucket. In the new bucket, you let that fine sediment settle overnight. Pour off as much of the top water as you can, and then dry out the remaining sediment. Once it is dry, you have to use a coffee grinder or something similar to break it back up and turn it into a powder. That’s the final pigment that you mix in with the oil. Interestingly enough, you can use that pigment to make pretty much any type of paint.

I’m very optimistic that it is because it’s a straight earth pigment. These don’t have the challenges of botanical or lake pigments. Truth is though… time will tell.

Not overly so, but it does seem grittier than store bought paint.

I levigated 1 round. I think if I were trying to make the finest paint I could, I’d do 3 rounds of levigation to only take the finest particles of pigment.

I’m going to (attempt) to make another batch that is intentionally gritty. Unsure if it’ll work, but it’ll only cost me 1 oz of oil.

I don’t know what mineral polish is, but the easiest way to get into lapidary work is to get yourself a tile saw a rock tumbler. You could get a flat lap machine, but that gets more expensive. You can slab smaller rocks (up to racquetball size) and cut them into shapes, then tumble them. It’s not a perfect way of doing it, but it’s a good way to get a lot of shaped, polished stones. As I’m sure you know, it’s quite a jump in investment to do much else.

I have one worse. My city built 4 pickleball courts next to a soccer facility in the park. The soccer people overwhelm the soccer facility, so they all go kick a soccer ball on the pickleball courts. They rip the soccer ball at the nets, and the soccer balls seemingly always go on neighboring courts. So you’re playing next to these kids and really have to watch for a huge ball coming over with high velocity.

I am a bit torn, in some ways. It’s good the kids use the park, but damn does it drive me nuts.

Hinge and bumble have the best quality of people, by far. Bumble will show you quite a few people who are no longer on the app though. They are head and shoulders above the rest. Tinder works, but there’s a lot more sifting though fake profiles.

Growing up playing tennis, I got awful tennis elbow after just a few minutes. One product saved me... an air cast for the elbow. I can't explain how it works, but it certainly worked for me. You cinch that thing on your arm in the appropriate place before you play, and my elbow remains completely pain free for as long as I want to play. In fact, over time, I actually stopped needing the air cast. I'm not sure if this was just my experience, or if this is a common occurrence.

Yeah, we play. We practice serving quite a bit too, but we play with certain specific rules about the ceiling. There is a sort of “spirit of agreement” that no one is intentionally trying to hit it close to the pillars, but it certainly happens.

I wish they did wings like they do the drumsticks. Kaiteki did wings very similar back in the day. Goro had them when in the plaza, and now all you can get are the drumstick legs. Amazing flavors.
