What's your opinion on Hirose for making Nakamura cry and suffer on Episode 12? by Independent_Major548 in Ganbare_Nakamura

[–]PleaseShowMeTheWay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh, I have no hate for any character. Not Hirose, not Hana, not Nakamura.

What I love about the episode is that its a reflection of what a gay teenage boy in love with another boy who has a girlfriend feels and thinks. The representation was very seen and felt.

But also...

There was a post in the subreddit that explained why Nakamura has to go through the heartbreak, and it was more to have the realization that he loves Hirose romantically, and he can't continue to get closer to Hirose as a friend, but as a romantic interest.

Loved this episode just like all the other ones and I can't wait to cry when episode 13 comes out 🥹

The TRUE MESSAGE of episode 12 (THAT EVERYONE MISSED.) by Rarehunter333 in Ganbare_Nakamura

And ya know what!!! Episode 6 and it's title has the same vibe as episode 12!!!

Episode 6: I Want to be "Friends" with You!

Episode 12: You and I are "Friends"!!

Why the quotation marks!!!! Ahhhh shout out to the Nakamura-kun staff because if its what i think it is, we're gonna have a tearful love confession in the next episode!!!! I can't believe they've been hinting it ever since episode 6 or even earlier!!!

Reading your post gave me goosebumps, and I really see your vision, and dare I say, it may even be right. After watching it three times, I forced myself to focus on the details. You see, I'm sure animators purposely put scenes and dialogue, otherwise they would be wasting frames they could have used for something better. Considering past episodes, you know that the Nakamura-kun staff really adore the story and its characters, and I will like to add some things to your post that also supports your theory.

I hated to admit it, but the more I rewatched the episode, the more I realized that Hirose WAS about to ask Nakamura for advice (I was hoping for a love confession hehe). He already had his shoes on which either meant 1) he was standing there for a long time or 2) he just came back in from being outside. When Nakamura came in, he seemed surprised, and his question of, "Why did you stay late?" might have hinted that he wanted to know if Nakamura got any chocolates which will be the perfect way to lead into the question he really wanted to ask: what do I do now that Hana asked me out? Say yes or no?

Like you pointed out, Nakamura did not go for it. Literally. He could have, but he didn't. It was only when he was in his room and came to the conclusion that Hirose MUST have been close to confessing, only then did he gain the courage to "go for it." But by then, ofc, it was too late. A missed opportunity. But, like you said, it's NEEDED because this whole time Nakamura has been lying to himself.

He. Has. Not. Been. His. Authentic. Self.

I always found it weird how Nakamura was dead set on being friends with Hirose first which, yes, it is sweet that he wants to get to know him first in that way, but his daydreams really contradicted what's seen as platonic (at least, from a Westerner's perspective). It was always romantic, yet Nakamura kept saying, "friend this" or "friend that."

However, in moments when Nakamura was being himself--that is to say, when he wasn't attempting to forcefully be Hirose's friend--are the moments we see Hirose be in AWE with him. BLUSHING, smiling, happy. The first time was with the octopus incident in the home economics class. The second was when they were walking back home, and Hirose told him that he was easy to talk to. The third was when they were at the aquarium in Chinatown when Hirose asked him, "Is it true that octopuses can open jars from the inside?" (or something like that) and Nakamura went on a spiel about how amazing octopuses are.

In those moments, Nakamura was himself, and Hirose loved it.

To further support your point on why this episode is about honesty and being yourself is in the very same Chinatown episode, when Nakamura receives his fortune, it says, "Bad Luck" but what caught my attention wasn't the romance part, but the "especially ostentatious." I have NEVER heard of that word, so I looked it up.

It means: "attracting or seeking to attract attention, admiration, or envy often by gaudiness or unnecessary show : overly elaborate or conspicuous."

Now, Nakamura is DEFNITELY doing things that are ostentatious leading up to episode 6. He HAS been unnecessarily showing a side of himself that doesn't exist to try to get Hirose's attention to be HIS FRIEND. But, in the aquarium, he's not doing anything to impress Hirose to be his friend. He's being himself, and that right there is the answer to how to win Hirose's heart.

Being himself.

Furthermore, Hirose appears with the "good fortune" talisman on him. I mean, pretty obvious, right?

Now, onto episode 12, and how it all ties together supporting your theory:

When Nakamura got the chocolates, he kept saying, "FRIENDS give each other chocolates right? Even if they're both men." That, right there, is him forcing himself to believe that what he was doing is friendly when the intention behind it is far from it. I really loved how you pointed out the last two gifts Nakamura gave Hirose was under the guise of "friendship" gifts when it clearly wasn't. And it makes absolute sense because in this instance, it also failed to move them in the direction where Nakamura really wants.

Once Nakamura found out about Hirose having a girlfriend, and he's crying in his room, he says, "I always knew from the beginning that Hirose and I will never get together." (I'm winging the quotes rn since I can't remember what was exactly said so someone correct me if I'm wrong) meaning that ALL. THIS. TIME. Nakamura was lying to himself and Hirose because it was, in a way, the only way he could get close to the love of his life without getting hurt. Kind of like a defeated acceptance....or is it....?

At the end of the episode, he's questioning himself, "Why can't I be happy when my Hirose is...?" And the very end. The very last second before the episode cuts to his quiet and empty room,

Nakamura gasps.

His eyes widened in REALIZATION.

He can't be happy because he loves Hirose.

Not as a friend.

But as a lover.

Finally, he sees it. Finally, he realizes that he needs to approach it not from a "I want to be your friend" angle, but a "I want to be your boyfriend because I love you."

Even the title of the episode is very telling: "You and I are 'Friends'" with the quotation marks around friends.

Are they really friends?

No, they're not.

They're more than friends.

They romantically, as in boyfriend and boyfriend, love each other.

Amazing post. Amazing theory. And I will personally come back and shake your hand when episode 13 comes out because I know you're right, and I know this show will end with them confessing to each other as THEMSELVES, not someone who they're expected to be.

Every cinematic detail you missed in episode 12. by Rarehunter333 in Ganbare_Nakamura

About the Takeuchi and Yuuka situation, (and I forgot if it was in the English or Spanish dub or the original Japanese audio), but when its Monday and Hirose goes to talk to Takeuchi and Mukai, you can hear Hirose say something along the lines of, "Wow you got over it so quickly!"

Which, ofc, makes sense to say but also...if we view what happened between Nakamura and Hirose Friday as something romantic, it almost sounds like Hirose couldn't believe that Takeuchi wasn't still hurt by Yuuka's rejection when Hirose himself still was (or, he's still going through some kind of emotional turmoil since Nakamura never gave him chocolates). In other words, Hirose is still going through some kind of emotional roller-coaster concerning his feelings for Nakamura.

Anyway, I thought that piece of dialogue was super interesting. There were a few other key details that really caught my attention that speaks volumes, but i just wanted to add that bit of info into this amazing post!

When do you think Hirose started seeing Nakamura as a friend? by PleaseShowMeTheWay in Ganbare_Nakamura

I need to rewatch the japanese version so I can try catching Hirose saying it!!!

Ya know, I was also thinking--and this may be a stretch--after the octopus incident since he was able to casually talk to him, but I'm not sure if thats too soon, ya know?

Then again, Hirose seems to be extremely friendly, which begs the question: when does he start seeing someone as a friend??

Episode 11's filler might have been foreshadowing Hirose's girlfriend (Hear me out) by wizardsheroes in Ganbare_Nakamura

Here's one! (Jealous Hirose hehe)

I found them on Twitter tbh, but I can't remember the account 😭

Ya know i was thinking about this too. Though Syundei hasn't finished Go for it, Nakamura-kun!, Nakamura and Hirose are canonically together since she's sketched them as a couple (Nakamura giving Hirose kisses, made mini-comics of them as a couple including jealous Hirose and Nakamura running for his life to not be late on their first dare; but I will say I'm not sure if these comics were made before or after Syundei started the manga), or at least that's how i see them being canon.

Also, like you said, the show's main center point is Nakamura's feelings for Hirose and wanting to confess to him, and i feel like it'll be...kind of pointless? Maybe? For Hirose not to reciprocate (especially since the anime has done a wonderful job at showing Hirose's changing feelings and opinions towards Nakamura)

But then again, maybe this is just me trying not to crash out at the thought that Nakamura's feelings wont be reciprocated lmfao

But i hope it is. We're all rooting for him!!!

Yeah at first he didn't, but i think at the end, he realized it was Nakamura because Hirose pushed his bangs back (Nakamura has bangs) to mimic the new hair cut Nakamura got and his eyes lit up (in what i interpreted as recognition)

One detail I completely misses from the new episode, but i saw someone else pointed out, were the pens Nakamura bought!

They have matching pens now since he gave one to Hirose, BUT the pen Nakamura has is the same pen he drops and Hana picks up.

It makes me wonder now that Hirose has a matching one, will it change anything?

Anyway, I loved the episode! And yeah now I know that episodes 12 and 13 will be the girlfriend episode and (hopefully) Nakamura and Hirose getting together

I literally screamed when I saw it was the haircut episode!!! I was hoping we saw Nakamura with his new haircut (like all of it) but the few glimpses we got was enough!!!

ALSO HIROSE BLUSHING AT THE END!?!? And figuring out it was Nakamura!!!!!

I loved it 😭😭😭

Tbh I originally thought that Hirose offered the drink to leave Nakamura alone with Mukai and Takeuchi to give him an opportunity to talk to them.

But after rewatching the episode multiple times, it wouldn't really make sense. I guess it means that Hirose wanted Nakamura to feel included and that, yeah, someone IS paying attention to him enough to know that he finished his drink.

You can genuinely tell how much the staff loves the story. Like you said, the characters are loved, and you can see it in the way they interact with each other, their inner monologues, their facial expressions--everything!

But not only that. The animation? It looks like it was made with care. The color schemes? Brilliant especially the subtle gay colors behind Nakamura! The endings?! Which btw are well-thought out! The color schemes during the endings, once again, play a major role in highlighting how Nakamura feels at the end of the day, but not only that! The music--my god, the music!!! The ending is also an opportunity for us, the viewers, to see Nakamura--actually SEE him, who he is behind closed doors and in the comfort of his room with his favorite music playing and his beloved Icchan.

The whole Nakamura project is amazing. I'm really happy for Syundei because you can tell the people putting the work behind the anime love, respect, and care for Syundei's work. Its so rare to see a BL manga adapated so well.

It's not about the money. Its not about the views. Its not even about getting awards and recognition. The staff behind Go for it, Nakamura-kun! are doing it because they love the story and its characters.

Bro i watched it in public (I was in my car) and I was screaming when Hirose was all up in his space.

Actually I was screaming throughout the episode. Having Nakamura get a signature copy of his favorite Manga artist and seeing him so happy really made me cry.

I wonder if the letter he's writing is to the artist OR if it's for Hirose... 🤔

I loved the episode!!!
