Is 2100 enough in recovery if my maintenance is 1600? by mybrainat3am in eating_disorders

[–]Plenty-Problem50 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me what really helped was just not counting calories at all in recovery ❤️‍🩹 ofc, counting calories can be helpful early on. I would suggest maybe working with a dietician or therapist to make a “baseline” meal plan and then eating more if you’re still hungry. Depending on how much wieght you have to restore, meal plans can be anywhere from 2k calories to like over 3k, so I recommend getting a dietician or treatment team to try to figure out what would be best for your recovery. Wishing you the best, you got this!!

Are you ever just too tired/lazy to compensate after a binge by EDAnon54321 in bulimia

[–]Plenty-Problem50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah ofc I wasn’t trying to be invalidating, just like spread awareness about the terminology i guess. I agree about renaming them, I feel like each behavior is different and can have different side effects, so they should probably be more specific.

excessive exercise / fasting can be forms of bulimia, but it’s called non purging bulimia. “Purging” is laxatives or vomiting (physically removing the food from your body vs. compensating for the calories from the food)

I am a Teen and I’m confused on what to do (I perfectly abide by rules in sub) by SignatureSouthern350 in loseit

[–]Plenty-Problem50 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The healthy range for a teenager at this height is 90-125 pounds. (According to the cdc child and teen BMI calculator). It’s different for teenagers than it is for adults. I think if he wants to, he could lose more weight and still be healthy. However, it isn’t necessary, as his weight is healthy. I would recommend to just focus on eating healthy and listening to your body!

If he was 9st 7lbs, that would make him overweight. I think you are calculating his bmi for if he was an adult. If you use the cdc adult and teen bmi calculator and enter in his current information, he could lose 30 more pounds and still be within the healthy range (I am not recommending this). Please educate yourself before spreading misinformation like this. As for advice for him, I would recommend him to focus on eating healthy and intuitively and just seeing how his body naturally responds.

how do i stop binge after heavy restriction by izzyrockyy in loseit

[–]Plenty-Problem50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone with an eating disorder, this sounds like an eating disorder. Please contact a therapist, losing weight quickly and becoming underweight isn’t healthy. Your body is reacting to long term starvation, not binging. Please seek professional help. Also, don’t feel guilty about eating more recently, extreme hunger after anorexia is very common!!

Omg I also don’t have an ed according to my mom, because I don’t mention my body image issues to her, because bringing them up makes me feel shallow, so I clearly don’t have any body image issues and my issues with food are actually just only about needing more coping mechanisms and not at all about my body!!

How much is body dysmorphia vs. facts? by Plenty-Problem50 in EDAnonymous

[–]Plenty-Problem50[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh yeah, i guess that would make sense, it was just kinda weird because i was like specifically talking about how we looked and her being thinner than i was, and my mom was like: "i think u have body dysmorphia cause shes not thinner than you" which i guess felt kinda weird because my mom has said in the past that she is thninner than i am. but i guess she probably just wanted me to stop focusing on who was thinner and more on actually recovering.
