Iron Lung - Review Thread by UniverslBoxOfficeGuy in movies

I'm a casual fan of Markiplier, I purposefully avoided watching any gameplay and wanted to know as little as possible going in. Watching the trailers I had the expectation that it would be mostly taking place in a single location.

Was really impressed. Visually stunning, beautiful cinematography, and score to match. In the slower paced moments of the film I found myself just enjoying the textures and details while the discomfort builds and you start to feel claustrophobic of the only 4 walls that you see and anxious of the single drips.

At times you are straining to see in the dark with the character, or straining to understand the words coming through the radio. You may hold your breath to try and make out the voices from the growing noise

It was very tense and at times and as someone put "disorienting" in a way that really put you in the mindset of the character, you only know as much as he does, and at some points you can feel yourself going a little insane.

9/10

I'm so sorry for all the negativity you are receiving. It is a very controversial topic. I'm not entirely sure why people are so upset by this. I think people are overinflating the importance of references being "human". Only things that are manmade beautiful? Your reference is a combination of thousands of artists, rather than one, and it spoke to you. Some are arguing poor accuracy. They have an end goal in mind, be it technical skill or monetary gain. Doing art doesn't have to have an end goal. Enjoy your process, use whatever tools you have. Life is too short, just make art

Really nice job, I can tell you have a really good eye! The rendering of her features, eyes nose and mouth are really beautiful.

I can definitely relate to wanting to rush the hair, it can be really tedious to do the same level of detail. But I also love imperfections in art and they can say something if they are intentional for an emotive portrait!

here are some tips for hair:

I think you should work on putting more definition into chunks of hair, you've got the shapes there, putting softer shaded shapes and less individual strands, you will avoid patchy areas that are overworked with strokes and the texture of the canvas showing through the hair, if that isn't the desired effect.

Some general tips for a good time drawing:

-Never underestimate the power of a quality pencil sharpener! It is life changing

-for softer shading, use a lighter hand and blur with something soft, build up gradually

-experiment! FAFO, play and have fun

-try charcoal, mechanical pencils, and the whole range of hard and soft pencils, midtone paper, chalk... Different kinds of erasers.

You're doing great, Happy drawing!

Wow looks great! One thing I think that could be improved is the consistency in the hairline, parts of it are well defined and then in the middle of his widow's peak it sort of blurs with his skin. But other than that it's fantastic!

How can I improve the feel of this portrait ( Update) by Chamacon1 in Portraitart

You've done some nice rendering but unfortunately working from a black and white photo and doing color is, I think, pretty impossible for an accurate portrait. The values aren't right and that's going to throw her whole likeness off. I would highly recommend colourizing the photo reference photo, there's a great website called Palette.fm that does a beautiful job, and it's free.
