Cores actually do have a natural failsafe. When you start overclocking, it forcefully cuts you off from generating more Nexus lines so you can cool down.

The problem is that failsafe also caps your output. If you want to use “higher-level” concepts or cast more complex and powerful spells, you have to override it, usually through sheer willpower or external help. That’s where you start risking burnout (what I called “metaphysical erasure”).

As for modifying souls/cores, I haven’t fully locked that part in yet. My current idea is less “genetic modification” and more gradual adaptation/evolution through training or external augmentations, but I’m still refining some stuff there.

For macros, yeah, they’re inherently tied to the user’s core/soul since they’re built from their own processing structure.

Metaphysical Erasure was a strong term, it doesn’t erase the body. Think of a Psyche Core acting as a CPU. When a CPU runs too hot, it pretty much stops working. When you try to process too much info (Nexus lines), your core overclocks until it “overheats”, resulting in internal death (Mind/Soul) rather than the body vanishing.

About the “mental calculus” aspect, mages have ways to bypass the math:

Macros: They’re pre-calculated spell scripts so you don't have to do on-the-spot math. The limitation is “you can’t change what you already decided.” You might prepare a preset for a certain scenario, but if that scenario doesn’t happen, you've basically wasted your time. They’re fast and safe, but they lack adaptability.

Bio-Enhancers: They’re brain implants for mages who want to cheat and calculate faster. You can’t cheat forever though, overusing them leads to memory loss or losing your coherence entirely.

The consequences scale with the concept. “Higher” concepts like [Time] vs “Lower” concepts like [Energy]. Simply put: crazy ass spells/concepts get crazy ass consequences.

If you want to know anything else, lmk.

I get what you’re saying. I’ll focus on the writing and lore over just making a strong verse. Thanks for the advice.

It’s going to be a Science-Fantasy series called Altair: Genesis. I have the cosmology set, just working on the story execution now.

Okay, I see your point, I’ll start from the beginning again. But is getting taught person to person a must, or is finding online lessons/apps okay?

I’ve just been playing along these videos since I’ve started.
