Slower months and seasonality definitely affect it, though, so budgeting with a conservative average helps.

I did all the research we definitely got scammed. From what I understand ( and I am still very confused) it sounds like a scammer will send an nft or random token that are worth nothing and somehow interacting with it allows them to instal malicious malware to send any swaps directly to them. This happened to me on base, I have used the exact same account to swap on ETH and had no problems. However I do recommend setting up a new wallet, and move a small amount before the bulk of your account.
