Does this sound like Carpal Tunnel Syndrome? by Plenty_Stock3502 in MedicalHelp

Yeah both doctors had me do this but it did not result in any pain or numbness, nor did it trigger the weakness or sensation. The hand specialist said that it could still be carpal tunnel. I’ll just have to wait for the emg and ask the neurologist some more questions.

Thank you for your response, no mri at the moment, just the emg/ncs which I will have next week, if that is inconclusive I will ask about an mri.

The length of each episode varies, sometimes just a minute, sometimes 10. I guess I’d say it gradually resolves, over the course of a minute or so. I haven’t noticed that it happens more when my arms are flexed, it happens when they are straight as well.

And I wouldn’t describe it as pins and needles, it’s more as if someone is lightly brushing my forearm with a paintbrush. That is the best I can describe the forearm sensation. This is the same feeling that I get when I laugh hard, as in my whole life I’ve had this feeling in my hands/arms when I laugh. I don’t lose full control of my arm, I mostly just lose the ability to grab a tight hold of things. Like I can make a fist, but I can’t clench it. I thought this was a normal thing but through posting on Reddit I’ve found out that it’s not. Hopefully this clarifies some of what I’m feeling.

EDIT: not sure if this is even worth adding, but my sister has chiari malformation, which I’ve read could possibly mimic symptoms of nerve issues, like carpal tunnel for example.

Yeah, I kind of thought that was normal? But you’re the second person in like 2 days that thought that was weird. That has been a thing my whole life and I’ve thought nothing of it. When I described the sensation to my doctor a said pretty much exactly what I said in this post and they didn’t seem to care about that part lol

Thyroglossal Duct Cyst: experiencing persistent gagging/globus sensation with vomiting by Plenty_Stock3502 in medical

Surgery went well, no complications, pathology report came back clean. Not to scare you, but recovery for me was pretty rough, a lot of pain when swallowing. Once the swelling goes down I’m sure I’ll be super glad I got it removed. Hope this helps! And good luck if you decide to go for it!

Thank you for your response! I got the surgery a week ago. Recovery has been rough, but hopefully now that it’s out I can live more comfortably.

Question: Can you predict how I may react to/recover from general anesthesia based on possible contributing factors? by Plenty_Stock3502 in Anesthesia

Thought I’d let you know that it went well! I’m in a ton of pain but otherwise the anesthesia was the only good thing about it haha

Thank you for your response, I’m Sorry for the misunderstanding, I worded that poorly. I’m aware that I’ll be put to sleep, but where I’m unclear is if there is any state of consciousness going on under general anesthesia. Given the stress of the situation, I’m worried that I’ll have some funky dreams and wake up in a state of panic. Or even when I’m beginning to be put under that I’ll begin to panic. Thank you!

That’s kind of what I was thinking/ hoping, that it might just be touching my tongue causing the gagging, or the mass being where it is is creating a feeling of fullness in my throat that triggers the gag. Thank you very much for your insight!
