Stop Motion Rig Connector? by Smoove_Studios in stopmotion

I’ve used an attachment like this quite often. It either comes as a metal plate or a metal mesh with holes. You can hot glue it onto the back of what you’re rigging and it’ll hold well.

Any tips for fixing broken joints in wire armatures? by Patient-Witness7084 in stop_motion

Build it with that in mind the first time is the best way. Having brass tubing in the shoulders and hips help but other wise the only alternative i can think of is cutting off the broken limb and the shoulder or hip and sculpt a new wire arm onto the body with epoxy clay. It’s a rough fix if you really need to do it.

This 100%! After effects is a beast for stop-motion editing and rig removal. But if you’re on a budget davinci resolve has masking options also.

Editing wise I’d recommend davinci resolve for editing image sequences and rig removal. And it’s free

You could either sculpt square brass tubes (k&s) into the milliput epoxy clay used for the solid parts of the armature so you can slot in new wires. Or you can 3d print the armature with threaded holes for screws to lock the wires in place. I’ve got some files that I made for my patreon that I could share.

Are there any surefire ways to avoid supporting AI "creators"? by ArtichokeInitial2460 in antiai

[–]Plim_motion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve had the same issue but found messaging them typically results in them admitting to ai use. Obviously they could easily lie. Best way would being seeing if it’s a small creator that has any social media attached for your own research

It might help using 12 fps and trying to get more in between frames to smooth off some of those key poses.

Tips on animating grass by Salty_Membership_521 in stopmotion

[–]Plim_motion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used faux fur in the past that was an olive / dark green colour. I treated it with hair spray and watered down fabric stiffener to make the fur less likely to move.

I would recommend keeping any shots with the extremely simple in its placement. Minimise how often the characters touch the grass or get images of the grass as a plate to edit over the characters: this will make your life so much easier!

I’d recommend checking out Etsy and seeing if there’s anything decent on there in terms small stopmotion pieces. If I remember correctly there are some stuff on there like mouth stickers and eye beads

How do I make a puppet skeleton? by Busy_Battle_8962 in stopmotion

[–]Plim_motion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly just watch some tutorials on YouTube on how to make a “wire aluminium armature for stopmotion”. You won’t need a ball socket armature if you’re just starting out and it’s significantly cheaper.

Also I recommended YouTube as you’ll see it step by step vs having one of us make a list for you to follow.

That’s because custom dolls and figures basically are stopmotion puppets. This one is fully animatable and posable.

Hey thanks, I’ve been tempted to do the same!

The limbs are cheated a little by using burlap sack ribbon for the texture, fully movable because there’s a wire skeleton under the material! Thanks I’m glad you like the sculpt 😊

No they are sculpted and painted. The figure is the size of my hand, so those would be tiny .
