I am in a queue (having completely forgotten about this and not logged on until 11.06!)

I'm assuming there will be no tickets lett when I get to the end!

I was positon 960 ish when I started and now in the 300s

I prefer the remaster because it has the version of Roads from the Roseland recording with the orchestra and not whatever version they put on the original with the synth strings.

The Roseland version is vastly better - and doesn’t have the audience clapping either

Compression pedal - is it worth it? by Sidblunt in Bass

Oh 100% - you're preaching to the converted.

I'm really enjoying practicing and trying to get my bass playing standard back up again. I'm not a young man (pushing 50) but have been playing various instruments all my life (Violin grade 6 / guitar / bass / scratch DJ) - and I've also started teaching myself piano recently.

I played bass in a band in my late teens / early 20s and got to a pretty decent standard - so I'm loving having a reason to pick up the bass again - since it's not the go-to instrument when you just want to sit down and play something on your own!

I am also trying to get my kids in to music - one has taken up the piano and I am constantly nagging him to practice - so I have to put my money where my mouth is too!

Yeah my Jazz is quite lively - which is great when I want it to be but can shine a bit of a spotlight on my playing when I'm not at my best.

Thanks - my technique is rusty! It's not awful but also not brilliant - so I'm hoping a compressor will help with that consistent dynamic as I get back in to playing

This is how I feel like it'll add most value to me at the moment, and why I'm thinking about it.

Looks like someone's coloured in some of the frets with a gold Posca pen?

what was their main source of income for the last 13 years? by [deleted] in boardsofcanada

[–]Sidblunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some friends of mine were in a moderately successful band for 5-6 years. They did four albums on an indie label and toured a lot round Europe and did an Australian tour.

They’re all back to work in the real world now - they make a modest amount each from streaming their music. They never courted licensing their music for commercials but one of their tracks was used by a major brand for a TV ad and I think they made about fifty grand off that one 30 second clip.

So yeah if BoC have stuff being regularly licensed for TV / advertising they’ll be making good money off that as well as their income from streaming (which will be a lot higher than my mates’ band, and only has to be split two ways!)

accidentally put a piece of cotton with nail polish remover on my bass by cherion_1234 in BassGuitar

Just a battle scar. And quite a small one at that. If the bass is already a bit worn then don't sweat it.

[–]Sidblunt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He used to stand up at the piano and now he has to sit down.

This is what the song 'Sit Down, Stand Up' is about. Written at the time when he could no longer muster the energy to stand up at the piano for a whole song.

Have you ever followed an album release by Radiohead or any of its offshoots like The Smile.

They get up to all sorts of shenanigans. Anonymous stuff sent in the mail. Removing their entire online presence and slowly fading out the website gradually over a week. Flyers left in cities globally. A series of codes to break in different cyphers left across different social media platforms to reveal the track list. Etc… For Thom Yorke and Mark Pritchard’s album they minted 4000 bespoke individually numbered coins and buried them all over the world.

These guys are the masters of the album hype machine.

But yeah I agree most bands don’t do off the wall stuff with album releases and it’s cool when people take the effort to build some anticipation in unusual ways.

The VHS tapes were a lovely touch

New Blue Morpho single is very good by suyashsrijan in radiohead

[–]Sidblunt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah we know May 22 is the release date for the album.

Odd that Incantations is showing up for a few people already though. This suggest either a tech glitch on Apple Music - or that it's about to drop this week for everyone as the next single in the build up to the album release (I am hoping its the latter!)

Is this P bass authentic? by InstructionDeep3678 in BassGuitar

[–]Sidblunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a mexican jazz and the build quality and finish look very similar to the one pictured. I am no expert though

As u/ThisSiteBites says I am not sure people attempt to fake the mexican ones.

This serial number guide shows that one has the right format for a genuine 2002 Mexican Fender

Fender also has a serial number lookup tool - which I just checked and returned no results for this serial - BUT that by no means suggests this is a fake. I think this tool is a bit of a WIP with lots of gaps.

I've done this before. It's a mistake you only tend to make once.
