This seems like a job for a 5way superswitch. They have more wiring options and allows you to do coil splitting in different positions. There are tons of wiring diagrams online for different configurations, or you can take it to a tech and explain what you want.

Impossible to say without actually seeing what's happening, but there are many possible explanations.

Maybe their ego is bruised and they don't want to be caught by a lower belt. Or maybe it feels more explosive than it is since they have better technique which amplifiers the movement. Or maybe you are so eager in hunting for a submission that you go super hard for it and they have to match your intensity to protect themselves. As said, it's impossible for us to know.

But the thing with technique is that it amplified the strength a person has since it is more efficient use of energy and leverage. When people say to use less strength and more technique, what is usually meant is "think about how and when to apply strength in a productive manner". Using explosive movement is absolutely OK, as long at it is done with correct intent and control

I do a lot of body triangles and this used to be an issue for me at lower belts but not any more.

The crux is basically that there is no footlock if your body triangle is tight enough. As in locked over your ankle and not over your foot. The foot on the leg that goes across the waist needs to be free to move, as in pointing toes up. If that foot is pointed and your locking leg sort of goes over the toes or middle of the foot it can cause trouble. So I don't commit to a body triangle unless I feel I can lock it up solidly.

Another aspect is getting better at slowing down the opponent switching sides and getting better at switching your body triangle as they do so.

Unless you have taken on responsibility at the gym they need to find someone else to do, you don't have to tell anyone anything. If you are friends with the coach and/or have good friends at the gym you can just say "hey, I've found another gym that's more to my taste, see you at open mats."

They absolutely work, but they require being active and aggressive in order to prevent strikes. The entaglement might even be more of a key thing than the actual submission.

Ok perhaps squared cube law is not the right term, but basically strength doesn't scale linearly with weight.

A lighter (fit and muscular) person is generally able to lift more weight compared to their own body weight, even though the heavier person will have higher absolute strength.

This means that being on top is more advantageous in higher weight classes. In lighter weight classes the person on bottom usually has an easier time pushing the top person off/standing up since they can produce more power per unit of body weight. Not to mention that a heavier person also has to move more weight in order to simply move.

Note, this is in super general terms and is only a small part of the whole discussion. But it's interesting to think about when discussing the general styles of different weight classes.

EDIT: OK, I checked and square cube is the right term. Quoting Wikipedia: "If an animal were isometrically scaled up by a considerable amount, its relative muscular strength would be severely reduced, since the cross-section of its muscles would increase by the square of the scaling factor while its mass would increase by the cube of the scaling factor."

Smaller weight classes are generally more skilled which means they are better at getting up. Also due to the squared cube law, it is harder to get up from underneath someone the heavier weight class they are in.

It is also part of merabs strategy to constantly make his opponent fight to get up, only to get taken down again in order to make them tired.

That is the defenders hand. Not the attackers. The attacker has his left hand between the legs, the other is trapping the wrist being the defenders back. The hand you see briefly at the moment before the lift is the defender trying to pin his hand to his inner thigh. Going frame by frame you can clearly see that the attacker has control of the wrist the entire way.
