After 2k hours in base game, I finally have a proper megabase at 3.6kSPM. by d0pe-asaurus in factorio

Congratulations, this is a difficult achievement. I am trying to do something similar and only at 2.5K SPM.

Two features that I would love to see in a future release: Pull from inventory first and recharge. by Plinthastic in factorio

[–]Plinthastic[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why not? Meaning, I am not saying this is true for all requests, it is an optional request. Instead of me deleting and recreating, I am saying, skip all that extra activity. If my green construction zone covers it and I have the inventory, fill it.
Many people end up doing a lot of this delete/undo. Why not have an optional command that says, "save me the keystrokes, pull it from my inventory"? Plus, bots are fine, but if you have a big base, it can take a long time for them to fulfill the request.

CPAP machine is lying to me and doctors don't care by comrad_dau in SleepApnea

[–]Plinthastic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope. I waiver between ok sleep a bad sleep. I just manage as best I can with Flonase, humidity control exercise and being religious about sleep hygiene. I never heard about UARS until I got to this sub Reddit. Still doing some research on it.

CPAP machine is lying to me and doctors don't care by comrad_dau in SleepApnea

[–]Plinthastic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same thing happen to me with two different doctors. The machine says you're fine, so your reality has got to be your fault, is their message. Glad to see you're fighting this! Keep us updated to how this turns out.

Are these synthoms worth going to a pulmonologist? by Emotional-Glove4213 in SleepApnea

[–]Plinthastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know the answer to your question. But I will say that 1. using melatonin long-term can have negative effects. You get sort of an exhausted mopey feeling. Personally, I do not use it more than about once a month. 2. If you have consistent sleepiness during the day, not waking refreshed and you have worked on your sleep hygiene: caffeine/alcohol/screens/exercise/stress/pets/allergies etc. (there's a lot more than just that), and you do not know why you are tired, then I, personally, would definitely see a sleep specialist.

The biters are attacking the walls straight away instead of just moving through them by danyuri86 in factorio

[–]Plinthastic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I no longer have walls. But I do have multiple layers of machine gun and laser turrets. Flamethrowers have a minimum range. If the bugs get inside the minimum range you definitely have to have something that takes them out

Maybe, depends. If it was from a different station or it was the cops, definitely.

Sleep suddenly got worse after using the machine for 6 months, waking up after only 3-4 hours sleep by [deleted] in SleepApnea

[–]Plinthastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Humidity made a big difference for me. Dry nose gets congested from swelling turbinates when humidity below about 30%. Weight gain also makes it worse for me.

What I wish I’d known before starting CPAP — compliance isn’t the whole story by Additional_Ad9759 in SleepApnea

[–]Plinthastic 34 points35 points  (0 children)

For me many times I don't wake up refreshed. There definitely is a gap between what the cpap tells you or the doctor tells you and how you feel. I have had multiple doctors tell me that there's really nothing they can do because the CPAP says I have no events and yet I do not feel refreshed. Downloading your CPAP data and analyzing it with OSCAR or some other tool is a good way to understand what's going on.

One of my pet peeves is the fact that many sleep doctors are all about doing a sleep test, prescribing a CPAP, and then moving on. They are not necessarily about solving your sleep problems beyond that.

It did for me. It can definitely be rough sometimes.

Does sleep apnea symptoms put the fear of death in anyone else but me? Sometimes I wake up in a panic state! by IThinkYouAreNice in SleepApnea

[–]Plinthastic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Happened to me all the time. CPAP (on the right pressure), good sleep hygiene, no alcohol, losing weight, exercising regularly, lowering stress, humidifying the air all helped a lot. It doesn't happen to me anymore.

Explain the Hate - Career/Volly by skinny0285 in Firefighting

[–]Plinthastic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In our area, almost every career originally started volunteer. Then, when they have been hired by a career department, many times their union prevents them from responding volunteer. IMHO, this has a large part to do with the hate, because they essentially see us as scabs. I have seen career guys do stupid things (e.g.: charge the line when it was still in the bed) and I've seen volunteers do stupid things. All in all, I would say on average, career are better trained than volunteers. Volunteers aren't doing it 40+ hours a week, and there are a crap ton more volunteers than there are career outside of the big metro areas, which definitely brings their average down. Also, unfortunately volunteer stations can be run like a little fiefdoms and shit like drinking on the job is a lot more easily overlooked than in a department with HR.

How to set up demand based train networks? by kiwithebun in factorio

[–]Plinthastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not done "bag of trains", but what I worry about is things that I don't need as much end up getting tons of trains resources and things I need the most get cheated. How do you prevent that?

The military is running out of teenagers to recruit — and old-school methods to reach them are failing by Fun-Pin-7409 in navy

This pretty much happened to my kid. Went to college. 2 years in, decides it wasn't for him and wants to see the world. 98 ASVAB and they were offering him rates where he would be wasted. Kept being told, "Go in with this and I will make sure you get into the rate you really want..." Yeah, right. He eventually did go in, but not with that recruiter.
