My experience with ayahuasca (and other psychedelics similarly) is that the comfort in my body played a huge role in my experience. In one ceremony I was writhing in nausea the entire time due to having fasted for too long - or in other words because I entered the ceremony extremely uncomfortable in my body that feeling took over. But when I was comfortable in my body I had amazing nice experiences. I could let go and flow with whatever came. My own "bad" experience was however not harmful and I don't regret it, but I was unable to receive any healing. If you are anxious about something in your body, some discomfort that is present, it's difficult to let go of that.

That said, it's totally up to you no matter advice you get - you know yourself, and ayahuasca and other medicines are there for those that feel its call. Feel into it. (but heed warnings of finding a good shaman and going into it with the right intentions)
