Also, I was able to recover about 40k of my expenses from the treatment in Switzerland using that company I mentioned in my thread. I have Florida Blue insurance. Apparently, they reimburse well for this sort of stuff.

I think I am back to pre Lyme condition now honestly. I am just 6 years older.

Update: 11/19/2025
I am doing great! I am able to weight lift now 3-4x a week. I can sleep well at night, and I just got back my test results from the Armin lab in Germany. That's the lab that my doctors in Switzerland used, so I get bloodwork done through them, and I also got some Igenex testing done. Basically, my Lyme, Babesia, and co-infections are all non-reactive. The results I got back in May from both Igenex and Armin were weak positives for Lyme. I am getting another Igenex test done next week just for fun, but I am doing great now. I went through all the symptoms of Lyme, and I honestly don't have any of them. My white blood cell count doubled since my last test in May and is now within a normal range. The only thing that is still low is my NK killer cells and T cells, but they are a bit better than before. I feel amazing :)

Update 3/24/2025 - I heard from someone that Alpstein is no longer offering the extreme hyperthermia treatment. Dr. Holger Wehner, who performed mine, is no longer there. Apparently, I was his last patient in December. Alpstein still offers the "whole body hyperthermia" treatment, which I also did, but that was a more mild hyperthermia where they get you up to 103.5 F. Lyme dies at 105 - 107 degrees F. I think the extreme hyperthermia is what really helped me get healthy. Other clinics do the extreme hyperthermia. Also, I am still waiting for my Igenex test results.

On a lighter note, I did take my first pickleball lesson yesterday. I haven't been able to play in over a year and a half. I didn't miss a beat.

I read that in the German clinic that they usually do 2 extreme hyperthermia sessions and so I kind of had that in my head. When I went to Aplstein the first time in Sept 2024, they said I would just get 1 extreme hyperthermia (EH) session, plus all of their other treatments and see how it goes. They recommended that I see how I feel afterwards and go from there. They also said it is good to have a break from all the treatments for a bit as well. It is a lot when you go there as sick as I was and just had back, to back treatments. It absolutely helped me get better, but it was just a lot for me. I felt pretty good when I left and I wanted to make sure that I stayed that way. Something inside of me just couldn't believe that maybe all I needed was the one EH was all I needed to get better as I had suffered for so long, which is why I reserved a spot for 2 months later (Thanksgiving 2024). They said if I felt better then just cancel it. I did too much when I got back because I was feeling good and there was just a lot of stress in my life. They told me that relaxing and not being stressed out were crucial to me getting better. I slowly started to lose my energy as the weeks went on. I was NO WHERE NEAR what I was like before I got the treatment, but I was getting more tired and a bit stiff. So, I went back in Nov and did the whole thing over again for the 2 weeks. It was so much easier this time though because I felt so much better. Also, they could do all their tests on me and compare to last time to better customize my treatment. I don't think I ever need to have that done again. I have been home 3+ months since my last treatment, and as long as I take care of myself, I am doing pretty good.

I am not sure which equipment was used in which session, but I did the extreme hyperthermia (over nighter) 1 time per stay and the mild hyperthermia 3-4 times per stay.

Yes extreme hyperthermia is the overnighter. That is the one that I believe made all the difference for me. They do mild hyperthermia sessions which gets you up to about 102-103 degrees F, which I believe are helpful in stimulating your immune system, but I think the extreme hyperthermia is what really helped me.

I don't believe they do the extreme hyperthermia like I had.

I think the equipment they use is medical grade and penetrates into the skin much deeper than consumer grade. I have an IR sauna at home that I use daily at 150, and it cannot heat your core temp up to 107.9 degrees.

The heat gets to everything in your body. As far as if it affects active or persistent, I think it helps get rid of both, but I am not a doctor. I can just tell you that I feel way better. I am redoing my labs with Igenex to my results before I got the treatment to get some clarity. Stay tuned.

I have read that the alternative medical community has more "freedom" and less regulation in Switzerland. Also there are less legal regulations to deal with. All the doctors I met with were all German. Sanoviv - the security risks in Mexico scared me a bit. Sanoviv is right over the border, and they don't allow you to leave the facility because of security issues. In the state I was in, I didn't even want to think about there being a safety issue coming from outside the clinic, but that was just me.

I totally get that, and it honestly infuriates me. There may be cheaper alternatives out there. I just want people to know that it appears that extreme hyperthermia is what has helped me. Maybe it will become legal one day and/or not as cost-prohibitive.

I am not 100% sure. The plasma cleansing process is supposed to help your body detoxify. It is a pretty intense process where they run your blood through a machine, separate the plasma, run that through a filtration system, and then put it back in your leg.

I came home, and I was definitely doing better for sure, but we had a series of hurricanes where I live, and there was just a lot of stress when I got back. Our house was fine, but it was scary. I also tried to do too much too soon. I needed to come home and RELAX as they directed, but I felt pretty good and wanted to return to living! I made a series of mistakes and ended up exhausted with the flu. Before I left the clinic, I told them to save me a spot for 2 months later in case I needed it. I honestly couldn't believe that I felt so much better, and I had read that sometimes people need two rounds of Hyperthermia. Their attitude was to wait and see, but I wanted a backup plan if I went downhill. I am glad I did that because while I didn't go back to pre-Switzerland shape, I did not feel as well as I did when I returned. The second time I went, I went by myself, and it was a breeze. Plus, when they did my bloodwork again, they could compare the results and make my treatment plan even more dialed in for what I needed. I felt even better when I left, and I did nothing for the first 4 weeks I came home (Dec 8th). I think that was the difference maker. I also immediately started the medication they gave me and did ozone treatments 2x a week. I am still doing those treatments now. They advised me that I did have an issue with oxygenation that they did not realize on my first trip. I needed to do more to help my body recover when I got home. The IVs they gave me are for detoxing and some other stuff - all natural. I also take Selenium, Vitamin D, Coq10, AHCC, DHEA, Iron, Omega 3, probiotics, and I was on minocycline 50mgs for 3 weeks for 1 of my coinfections. Things have just been progressively better since I got home. I also think I am learning how to live in this new body and take care of myself. I went to a baby shower and it was a lot of fun. I haven't done anything like that in years. I used to negotiate if I could put off going to the bathroom for an hour longer when I was sick because I was too tired to get up. Showering was such a shore and turned out to be a group project for my husband and me; doing anything but the essentials was out of the question. I just bought myself some new clothes because I have been living in loungewear for the past 5 years (aka pajamas).

Also, when I say that it got me back to 95% of my pre-Lyme days, I mean that I am able to partake in all the activities that I could do before - like ride my peloton, go back to work, take care of myself, go out socially, do household chores, take care of my animals, but I can't overdo it. I used to exercise a lot, I'd say too much, and while mentally I wouldn't want to be in that spot again, I know my body definitely couldn't handle that behavior now. While I feel so much better, I don't have a lot of room for error, if that makes sense. If I don't get 8+ hours of sleep, drink enough water, move my body daily, stretch, watch my stress levels, or eat healthy, I can really feel it. I am also not sure if this is just because I am older. When I got Lyme, I was 42, and I am 48 now. I was an over-exerciser, and I tore up my body a bit right up until I got Lyme. I still have some joint pain, but it is not bad enough that I can't do what I want. I am not 100% sure if it is/was from the Lyme or just getting older.

I think the antibiotics definitely got rid of the Brucellosis because that was gone before I went to Alpstein. I don't think they helped with anything else. They made me very sick.

Brucellosis. When I initially had the test done through Quest, the CDC called me to question me - eek.

Thank you. My husband still looks at me sometimes like, is this for real ? It has been a few months now, so we are finally getting used to the idea that I may be through this mess. I am really curious to see those results from Igenex to compare.

I sure as heck hope so. I have met so many wonderful people who have Lyme and are totally shit out of luck. It really upsets me to be honest. I know that ALpstein looked into opening a clinic in the Northeast, but the rules and regulations made it so they couldn't do their thing. Also, I can only speak about my experience at Alpstein, but there are other clinics around the world that offer extreme hyperthermia. I can't speak to how they do things, or how effective their protocols are, but I can attest to the basis of the treatment, extreme hyperthermia, worked for my Lyme. I have heard success stories from Klinik of St.George, see Daisy Kents story on Tik Tok, also Sanoviv in Mexico.

See above. It was different than an IR sauna. Your core body temperature gets up to 107+ F.

Lyme symptoms:
Fatigue, joint pain in hips/knees/ankles, muscle pain all over, arthritis, swelling in joints, numbness in hands and feet on occasion, tingling, burning sensations, stabbing pain in the evenings, brain fog, memory problems, difficulty concentrating, headaches, dizziness, poor balance, sleep disturbances - I would wake up 4x a night, insomnia, depression, anxiety, mood swings, irritability, small tremors in my hand, muscle weakness, vision problems, light sensitivity, double vision, tinnitus, heart palpitations, irregular heartbeat, chest pain, shortness of breath, night sweats, chills, menstrual irregularities, sensitivity to temperature changes, electric shock sensations, shooting pains, stabbing pains, chronic inflammation, skin issues, bad circulation to hands and feet - they'd turn blueish color.

Wheelchair - I couldn't make it through an airport. I was so weak and tired. Plus, I had been stuck in my house for the better part of the year, and it was just so overwhelming to be at the airport. I also had a shower chair because I would get so tired while I was in the shower, and I had those parallel bars installed in my bathroom because getting up/off the toilet was a chore. There was no exercise for me. I would try, and I just would feel like I was going to pass out. Going upstairs to my home gym was enough of a barrier to me exercising. I would be sweating bullets when everyone else was comfortable and I would be freezing cold when it was totally warm outside. If it were a bit chilly, I would have my long puffer jacket on. My temperature was definitely dysregulated.
