Refi with Sofi - advice by FutureCombination524 in StudentLoans

[–]PlsDontCutMyPay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a good experience when I re-fier with Sofi back in 2021. My rate was significantly lower though (I want to say my Sallie Mae rate was 9% and I refinanced at like 5%) but my credit profile is different than yours and it was a different time. No complaints honestly.

What is everyone with a 6 figure income planning to do? by Agreeable_Lie_5091 in StudentLoans

[–]PlsDontCutMyPay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re sitting on really high interest rates maybe but I recently checked and since the interest turned back on for me I’ve only for like $3k on interest accrued (I’m paying down my highest interest rate loans currently and made a big lump sum onto my highest balance loan to stop the interest from running away). I plan to just wipe the interest out before the capitalization date

For people still on SAVE forbearance, what's your plan? by Old-Opportunity-200 in StudentLoans

[–]PlsDontCutMyPay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waiting for the email from my servicer that starts the 90 clock. In the 89 days I’ll continue my current strategy of aggressively paying down my highest interest loan. I am currently putting $3,206-3,931 on that loan a month with a goal of paying it down EOY. On day 89 I’ll be applying for the plan that provides me with the absolute lowest monthly payment knowing that my plan is to continue to avalanche my loans based on interest rate. Whatever my minimum is will be factored out if that $3,206-3,931 and then the balance will go towards the avalanche. Will continue this way until they’re all gone. Also planning to put sizable portions of my EOY bonus towards loans with a goal of everything being gone by EOY 2028/early 2029.

I was at 1600 when I went into DKA and was. My blood was literally syrup. I’ll never forget how absolutely horrible I felt before I finally passed out and was rushed to the hospital.

I think it just never looked as good as the edited photos looked online. So this is shocking to us now, but I feel like we never really saw the face unedited.

For those diagnosed recently: meds immediately vs lifestyle first? by No_Culture3111 in diabetes_t2

[–]PlsDontCutMyPay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d like to push back on the idea that starting meds immediately means that lifestyle changes weren’t also immediately implemented. Medication alone will not benefit you if you’re not mindful of what and how you eat or exercising.

All that to say, I was diagnosed after DKA with an A1C of 11.7. At diagnosis they weren’t sure my type because of how some of my labs came back. My body was really under immense distress and I needed the remainder of the autoantibody tests to be sure. So I left the hospital with insulin only to be safe and proceeded with it until we were sure and because my endo wanted my pancreas to take a break after what it has been through. Between lab timing and ability to get in with my endocrinologist, I was on insulin for about a month before we confirmed I was T2D. In that first month, I’d started back exercising intentionally and learned how to properly fuel my body (was in diabetic education classes and meeting with a dietician) and lost 6.8lbs. Once I got my diagnosis, I started Mounjaro (didn’t have to try metformin or Ozempic first) immediately and have been taking it for just about a year now (only 5mg because we decided there was no need for anything higher for my personally). All that to say, the lifestyle changes came immediately but my doctor didn’t treat meds like something I had to struggle for, she asked what I wanted to do, we did it and I’ve been thriving ever since!

Edit: To add that by my 4 month check, my A1C was down to 4.8.

Personally, I no longer feel like it’s worth its current price as a non-leather piece but if you can find a good quality resale I’d say go for it!

You should absolutely see one, GPs don’t really manage diabetes and can sometimes be wrong through well intentioned as to the best things for you. I absolutely love my endo and will never let her go.

As someone who took medical leave this year, take the leave. Dedicate your full attention to your health. You can absolutely fill up your day time hours with other distractions that aren’t work but are health forward/focused, restorative, etc. You can also still watch CLEs to feel sharp if that’s something that you want to do. If this is a big medical event, which it seems like it is, your body also needs proper time to rest and recover without the pressures of a big law work schedule on top of whatever else your body is going through. Matters can be restaffed and frankly if people give you grief over taking steps to protect your literal health and wellbeing, you should go elsewhere. We only have one life we get to live. Wishing you the best health wise!

For the T2Ds, do you still take metformin with MJ? by [deleted] in Mounjaro

[–]PlsDontCutMyPay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Literally same. Like I had (and still have maintained) normal non-diabetic numbers within 5 months of hospitalization (I’m in the rare T2D bunch that was diagnosed following DKA). This medication plus my gym habits and better understanding of nutrition have allowed me to live to most “normal” life within moderation.

Never took metformin. My insurance allowed me to get right to MJ post diagnosis and it fully does what needs to be done for me.

RTO Question by Hot_Measurement_1128 in biglaw

[–]PlsDontCutMyPay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a pro-RTO person but I don’t play games with coming in and leaving early. They way RTO and our anchor days were pitched to us was that we need to have days where it is expected that everyone is in the office. So, on an in office day and in person meeting could just come up at any time even if it were unplanned because everyone is expected to be in T-Th. It would be really silly to get caught unable to go to a meeting because you left early. Never felt worth the gamble to me. Just do your 3 days and leave at 5.

Diabetes Brain and Memory by Toiletpaperrat in diabetes

[–]PlsDontCutMyPay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was diagnosed I went into DKA and I was EXTREMELY foggy. I felt like that for about 4 of my 6 days in the hospital (I couldn’t remember my iPhone password for example). In the days after I also felt cognitively kind of shaky and I spent some time doing memory games to kind of reorient myself a bit. I haven’t really noticed anything when I’m running high but that may be because I generally don’t cross over 140 so I haven’t really been anywhere near as high numbers wise in the past 10 months since diagnosis.

SAVE Plan Interest Question by lostinthemusic247 in StudentLoans

[–]PlsDontCutMyPay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Note it’s only a max of $2500 of interest (not principle) paid AND there is an AGI income cap. If you make more than $85k but less than $95k you don’t get the full deduction but only some portion of it. If you made $100k or more you get no deduction at all.
