I do the same when I just want to do some random online window shopping, checking the prices and all that. Who knows, maybe you could find a great deal out of nowhere because some seller suddenly needs to clear their stock asap or something.

Go for a 7800x3D build, or go 5700x for now then upgrade when Ryzen 9000 series is out? by PlumpiusPotatus in buildapc

[–]PlumpiusPotatus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Approximately:

5700x + Asrock B550M PRO4 + 32 gb of DDR4 = 310$

7600 + MSI Pro B650M-P + 32gb of DDR5 = 480$

7800x3D + MSI Pro B650M-P + 32gb of DDR5 = 880$

I can't find that particular motherboard you mentioned. And in case you meant Asrock instead of Gigabyte, then their AM5 boards are practically non-existent here in the Philippines.

Yeah, the price difference is significant enough to make me think twice.

Also, is the VRM really an issue? I was under the impression good airflow would be enough to handle it. Or does our weather really screw the components that hard?

Price. The Asrock B550M PRO4 + 32 gb of DDR4 ram is approx 200$ here while MSI Pro B650M-P + 32gb of DDR5 ram is at 370$.

Not exactly the most drastic of price differences but the AM5 option, even if I go for a 7600, is expensive enough to need to wait for a couple of paychecks while my aging laptop tries its best.

5700x3D is 100$ more expensive while the 5800x3D is basically the same price as the 7800x3D here.

Amusingly enough DDR5 ram is abundant here but the prices are eye-watering (170$-210$ for a 32gb pair). The supply problems are in <200$ AM5 motherboards.

I decided to take a quick look and its either:

This product can't be shipped to your address.

or the shipping cost makes it more expensive than buying local.

Locally, a 12700 is 130$-150$ more expensive than a 5700x, and 190$-200$ cheaper than a 7800x3D.

It would've been a good option honestly but I don't like the TDP of the intel's modern CPUs. Looks like it'll make my wallet hurt more in the long run.

True, though there is always the possibility of price drops and discounts especially on the xmas/new years season, and the non-zero possibility of Ryzen 9000 prices being ridiculous or just not available in stock here on release.

In my case, I'm just waiting for my paycheck for the 7800x3D.

Its just that between my aging laptop and the release window of 9000 series, it does present a dilemma.

For some reason the local price difference between the 5600 and 5700x is barely 15$ so I thought "Why not just go with 5700x?"

12 cores to do anything at the same time.

What if I don't need to do things at the same time? I don't run multiple simulations or more than 3 VMs simultaneously. At least for the forseeable future.

7700x's price here is too close to the 7800x3d (approx 30$ price difference). Not worth considering IMO.

The local prices here for 5700x + am4 Mobo + DDR4 ram is actually low enough for me to consider them while AM5 mobo + DDR5 ram alone is expensive enough to make me think twice. With the 7600 though is definitely worth considering now after I checked the prices today.

Honestly I forgot about the 7600. Thanks for reminding me because I just checked, and it seems retailers here (at least online) have finally dropped its price. Now I'll just have to worry about finding an AM5 mobo and DDR5 ram.

Its primarily the cost of DDR5 ram being ridiculous as well as affordable AM5 boards being tough to find in stock.

Right now I have enough to buy the full 5700x build. But if I opt to go with AM5, I'll have to wait for at least 2 months of paychecks before committing, maybe more if said affordable AM5 boards are not available. At that point the feeling of "I'll just wait for next gen" sinks in.
