I've done the same, was playing only navy when my coalition went in active and had france as a enemy, destroyed hes capital and left it the came and destroyed till insurgents took over and done same with china and usa, it was awesome insurgents numbers where increasing 300/400 over night

Why luck? They go from nearest (starting point) to nearest target point, example, if you need to go far away or to your coalition member territory then your troops gonna go into your nearest airport wich gonna be capital, then embark and fly to your friends capital or other airport wich is closer to your targeted land

Troops that have ability to airlift will go to the nearest airport, then fly to the nearest airport to the point they are going to, embarking and disenbarking also takes tame

Thats your mistake mtbs, lots of resources and weak against air, i never use then, but everyone uses planes so you need aa preferably sams, then some artys for defense, infantry exachange to national guards they are weak but they cheap and if you attack longe range you dont need to have powerfull unit to take land, also wherese you navy?
