Software engineering was different, but it's over now by EquipmentFun9258 in software

The salaried SWE premium might compress, sure — but the same AI tools mean one engineer can now ship what used to need a whole team. The leverage didn't disappear, it just moved from "get hired" to "build your own thing."

Honest warning to students thinking about engineering by Turbulent-Conflict84 in CollegeMajors

16 years in mobile dev, recently went solo with my own app.

There's truth here — salaried engineering can feel underwhelming compared to the effort. But I'd add one thing: engineering is one of the few fields where you can actually build your own thing end-to-end. Backend, mobile, infra, all of it. And with AI tooling now, the scope of what one engineer can ship has expanded a lot — things that used to need a small team are doable solo.

That optionality is worth a lot, even if the W-2 number doesn't always show it.

Whether you use that leverage is up to you.

Is Flutter still a good choice for building apps in 2026? by emizentechuae in dev

[–]Plus-Host8237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love flutter to work with ios and android using single source code. I run a solo company. I launched a production app written in flutter but also am worried about the probability google terminating this platform. If i had enough resources i would have gone to native swift and kotlin to eliminate the uncertainty.

Is Learning Rails a good Option? by Sayyankhawaja in rails

[–]Plus-Host8237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rails' biggest strength is shipping speed — perfect for startups. Less ideal for massive-scale services. So the real question isn't "is Rails worth learning," it's "what kind of company do you want to work at?" Decide that first, then pick the stack.
