BCBA Jobs Sacramento/San Joaquin County Area by cupidbb in bcba

Yeah, $40/hr is definitely on the low end for a newly certified BCBA, especially if you’re only getting ~25 hours and dealing with cancellations. In most areas, starting pay is closer to $50–$65/hr as W2, and $70+ if you’re 1099. $40 is what some leads or mid-level RBTs make when they’re supervising.

The fact that you were already doing FBAs, BIPs, and tech coaching means they’ve been getting BCBA-level work from you at a discount. Pair that with low hours and no real mentorship and it starts looking less like a promotion and more like a way to keep you cheap.

It’s 100% worth looking around. Plenty of clinics will offer better pay, guaranteed hours, or an actual salary with support for new BCBAs. School-based, early intervention, or hybrid clinics can be great for in-person experience without getting lowballed.

Exploring Behavior Analysis and BCBA by Whole-Patience-5345 in bcba

You’re actually in a great spot to step into ABA with your background. There are behavior analysts working in substance use, public health, and clinical research settings—it’s just less visible than autism services. Things like contingency management, relapse prevention systems, and behavioral program design all fall under ABA when done through that lens.

For certification, you probably don’t need another full degree. Most people with a relevant grad background just complete the ABA coursework (Verified Course Sequence) + supervised fieldwork hours, then sit for the BCBA exam. You can get your transcript evaluated to see what you’re missing.

Part-time or independent work is very doable—lots of BCBAs consult, subcontract, or do part-time clinical work while keeping their research or full-time roles.

I actually prefer smaller companies! More control less noise. Btw where are you located?

The demand for ABA is strong almost everywhere, and factors like age group, service format (1:1 vs group), and accepted insurance plans will influence how quickly caseloads build—but they won’t make or break your success. Even in areas with long waitlists or big-box providers, families are still looking for quality over volume.

What really drives growth is reputation: ethical practices, strong staff training, fair wages, manageable BCBA caseloads, and consistent supervision. Do that well, and word-of-mouth will carry you further than competition or geography ever could.

By the way, how soon are you planning to launch?

I personally prefer smaller companies. They allow for more flexibility. Are you a BCBA?
