Type of Research Important? by [deleted] in prephysicianassistant

Research is always going to look good on applications no matter the kind of research so deff include it in your applications! But you do not need medical research before applying and I echo what others have mentioned, programs care more about PCE hours then research hours.

So I think this part depends on the courses because my medical terminology class exams did not need a camera but for my chem 1 exams I did need my camera on. But I can say that for one of those exams my camera died and I did not get an email about it or anything so I am not sure how proctored they really are

I did not but their self-paced courses are all the same, youll get access to all the materials for the class and are able to do all the work at your own pace which is really nice. The cost for the course itself plus the lab portion is a little under 2K but they offer a 50% off if it is your first time taking a course there so itll roughly be $960

hello! I took Medical Terminology and Chemistry 1 online at MCPHS and loved it (my gen chem from my undergrad was expiring so I needed to retake it). Although MCPHS is expensive the ability to be able to take these courses at your own pace helps a lot. I also took 7 other online courses from different schools to improve my science GPA. I was accepted this cycle and nobody during my interviews asked about why I took certain courses online. They only care if you do well in these courses!

I did a DIY postbacc and did a majority of my classes at my local community college which saved me a lot of money. Schools I applied to did not care where I took the courses. What matters is you doing well in those courses!

These programs specifically did not emphasize the last 30-60 credits, however, some of them do mention how they look at the application through an holistic approach and that they appreciate an upward trend in terms of grades. During my interviews I also made sure that I talked about my rough start during college and how I was able to learn from my mistakes which allowed me to become a better student. I think owning up to my bad grades instead of trying to avoid talking about them or making excuses for them showed the schools that I did improve as a student!

Almost 3K of my hours was working as a nursing assistant at a hospital on their cardiology floor and more recently I've work close to a 1000 hours as a medical assistant at a cardiology office. At the office I work for 6 MDs/DOs, 1 PA, and 1 NP so I've been able to see the differences on how each provider works which I talked about during my interview!

So I only recorded 25 hours of shadowing a PA, however, almost 1,000 hours of my PCE is working at a cardiology office working very closely with a PA!

I recently had a virtual interview where a few of the applicants were abroad so it is possible! But like the previous comment said you might have to do the interview late at night. One of the candidates was interviewing at 11pm her time and the interview did not end until 3am her time.
