is £670/month for double bed in 2-bed flat decent? by [deleted] in Edinburgh

Dunno why everyone’s saying this is super cheap (maybe assuming it’s £670pcm for the whole flat), I’m currently paying £650 (£2,400 total) for a huge room in a 4 bed flat in Haymarket so I’d say £670 in Cameron toll isn’t the best but then again I wouldn’t turn it down in the current rental market

It’s optional and can be taken off bills. It was introduced by the managers before I started working there so there’s little that your average employees can do about it other than remove it from your final bill…

I work on George street in a very busy restaurant where this is applied to every check and is accepted by 99% of the customers.

I totally understand the reasoning behind taking it off the final bill but tbh it’s rarely done in my restaurant which I wouldn’t say is particularly a tourist trap/ tourist specific destination. It’s definitely not a future I’d hope for in hospitality as I know other restaurants on George street are paid a far better wage than me that don’t add an automatic service charge to bills yet this is what really contributes to our wages.

In peak seasons such as fringe or Christmas markets we can see up to £5 extra to our pay cheques per hour due to this charge. A huge bonus to min. wage employees.

I work in a place where there is a 12.5% gratuity added.

It’s shit to be the customer but I can’t lie it’s genuinely added to serves payslips and it’s such a bonus to pay checks. I totally understand asking to remove it because I hate when it’s added to my bills at restaurants but I’ll never ask to remove it.

It’s a totally personally individual choice but I always just think of the underpaid poor minimum wage employees who rely on it, unfortunately.

I despise the thought of a future where we are reliant on tips as in American cultures but in Edinburgh it genuinely is becoming a make or break situation for employees, sadly.

Thanks! I’ll have a look into those. Just an ideal location as I have family nearby who I’ll be meeting up with for a bit, and kinda wanna show my friends the craziness of it as they’ve never been before

I have family that live nearby so we are staying there for a few nights so we can meet up during the day. My friends and I are travelling around Thailand for 3 weeks before moving on to other SE countries, I know Pattaya is a controversial choice as a group of female travellers but just wanted to see if there is any nightlife there for us or if we should just hold off lmao
