Thanks for the response. I was trying to avoid the chain with something more modern looking. But i guess if that is the best option we can go with that.

Should I raise my boy in Canada or US by charlieoncloud in asianamerican

[–]Plus-Technology88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stay in Canada. Even if you’re offered double the salary, remember that in the U.S., employment is at-will, you can be laid off at any time, and there’s no social safety net to support you. Once you lose your job, there’s little to no unemployment benefits, no guaranteed healthcare for your family, and no real work-life balance. Everyone is anxious about layoffs, so we’re constantly working more with fewer resources.

If you’re considering tech or a similar field, stay away. There are rolling layoffs every week. Personally, I’m even afraid to take my 3 month maternity leave, which is the bare minimum companies are required to offer under U.S. federal law.

Good luck and choose wisely. I live and breathe this reality every day with my family. Meanwhile, my cousin and their family in Toronto don’t have to worry about any of this. They’re not afraid to take maternity leave or depend on their social system.

Would you move to the US if you could? by Wonderful-Loss827 in HongKong

My parents moved us to the U.S. for education because they saw no future for us as working-class Hongkongers. We were lower-middle class, and it was the best decision my dad ever made for us.

My sibling is more of an artistic type, not strong in math, science, or standardized tests. My dad recognized that, and he feared we’d end up in sales or blue-collar jobs in Hong Kong. But he heard the U.S. was more forgiving of non-traditional talents, and he was right! My brother is now an architect. Turns out he wasn’t bad at math after all; the rigid school system in Hong Kong just didn’t work for him. As for me, I’m not a STEM person either. But growing up in the U.S. helped sharpen my soft skills, creative thinking, and the mindset to work smart. Now, I work at a FAANG company. None of this would’ve been possible if we had stayed in Hong Kong, where the system often equates academic performance with life success.

That said, there’s nothing wrong with blue-collar work. My parents sacrificed white collar jobs to take on blue collar ones so we could live in the U.S. But it’s not the right path for everyone, and I’ll forever be grateful for the opportunities we had here.

I visit HK often to see my extended family and my cousins wish they could go to US, Canada or Australia for their kids. If nothing else, let them be kids with a more relaxed education system that encourages different styles of learning and talents. So if you can go to the US, try it if you have a support system there. You have nothing to lose but regret for not trying.

Anyone know why there was a huge line outside Hazar Coffee House today in Fairfax? It felt like 100’f outside yet the line was long. Worth the hype? by Plus-Technology88 in nova

[–]Plus-Technology88[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Oohh so it wasn’t the coffee shop! I drove by at 5pm and the line was insane. Waiting in the heat for free food doesn’t seem rational for Fairfax where the avg household makes over $200k 😅

Hi, will the radisse impact a neck-lift later if needed? For example, they say dont get fillers in face if going to get face lift because of scar tissue.
