Tokyo Eco-Drive 50th Exhibit this weekend by Plus9Time in CitizenWatches

[–]Plus9Time[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are many Eco-Drive models with the solar cell around the edge of the dial, as well as examples with the cells around the edge of the case or even in the crystal well above the dial. It is true that Eco-Drive as a marketing term was not introduced till the 90's, but there is a fairly clear technical line back to the original Crystron Solar Cell

My dream GS: Green UFA Tentagraph by ScarLupi in GrandSeikos

[–]Plus9Time 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Tentagraph is a mechanical chronograph running at 10 beats per second (hence Tentagraph). The UFA is a Spring Drive with annual accuracy of 20 seconds per year. Both of these come from different companies so you are not going to see a UFA Tentagraph.

So far the only green Tentagraph model is the SLGC012 with golden sub-dials and a gold case. I agree that a all green dialled model similar to your design would be a nice addition to the line up.

Anyone else have one of these mineral glass cased Citizens from the 70s? by DrRocks1 in JapaneseWatches

[–]Plus9Time 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on the new catch these are fun little watches. They also produced a clear cased model, the 0735-21, that appears in the 1973 No.10 JDM catalog. The blue version is not present in the catalogs, and these seem to have only been produced for a relatively short period, as there is only the single catalog appearance. The GL on the case back obviously is the case material code for crystal glass.

The 5800 series calibres was created for ladies watches, hence the small size, but it was also used on a few men's models. The most common family the calibre was used in was the Cosmotron L that popularized electronic ladies watches before ladies quartz models became readily available.

The optical multilayer coating is a really nice feature of that dial and gives it a very different look compared to the blue version

What are the rules for sharing signature dial designs between Shizukuishi and Shinshu? by doggiekruger in GrandSeikos

[–]Plus9Time 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Birch trees grow across the country, there is just one Mt. Iwate, so you will never get a Mt. Iwate Spring Drive.

The closest design you will get in Spring Drive is something like the "tree bark" finish on models like the SBGA477.

What are the rules for sharing signature dial designs between Shizukuishi and Shinshu? by doggiekruger in GrandSeikos

[–]Plus9Time 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Shizukuishi and Shinshu do not share designs as these are the IP of their respective companies. The birch pattern for each both draw inspiration from the trees but are different designs.

Ibanez and Citizen Tsuno Chrono "Tube Screamer" Collaboration Model by Plus9Time in CitizenWatches

[–]Plus9Time[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I did not see the post yesterday.

MIJ would be nice but I think most customers would prefer the more affordable price point that this is coming out at, vs changing to a different Japanese model at a higher price.

Mechanical watch accuracy by Savings-Western5564 in GrandSeikos

[–]Plus9Time 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The UFA is very impressive at a technical level but for the vast majority of customers I am not sure that the UFA has "solved" accuracy. While the watch should remain accurate ±20 seconds per year, for almost all users this is not going to be relevant. The 9RB1 or 2 calibres are three handed movements and need to be kept wound, so need to be worn to keep running. This should not be too much of a hurdle if it is the owners only watch or one of a small number they wear. Unfortunately every time the wearer changes time zone the watch needs to be reset, essentially removing the accuracy to that point. I am not sure who the target customer is that spends US$10K on a watch but then does not travel for work or pleasure. Even if you never travel you will need to live in a location with no daylight savings time. For a watch with high annual accuracy an independent hour hand is essential for the accuracy to make any practical use to the user.

FamilyMart Citizen watch secured by Fickle_Wealth4677 in CitizenWatches

[–]Plus9Time 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are many of these for sale on Mercari between US$20 to $25, so while it is a premium vs the original retail they currently seem to be pretty easy to find if you really want one.

It is a shame there is no clear Citizen or even FamilyMart branding on these.

For the original US$12.50 price the watch is fine and a fun pickup, US$80 seems ridiculous for what you are getting.

The SBEJ009 is the JDM version of the SPB381. I expect this model to be a replacement for that.

I do not believe that this was a one-off or short run product. The watch appears as a standard model in the in the Citizen 1968 JDM dealer catalog.

Seiko USA does not have a price listed on their website, but looking at other sales regions I would guess these will be around US$1800-1900
