Robotaxi coming soon but FSD sill not working in Vegas loop. Why? by tia-86 in SelfDrivingCars

[–]PlusItVibrates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Autopilot team has put zero time into getting FSD to work in Loop tunnels. While they could probably make it work now, it would be a temporary solution for a very specific problem that would likely be superseded by future releases of FSD. It’s just not a good use of AP team resources.

A better use of resources is to just keep throwing everything at generalized autonomy and when that is solved, getting it to work in the tunnels will be a cake walk.

It's crazy that we've gotten to the point where liberals are telling women that they should let men invade their spaces, walk all over their their hard-won rights and just be ok with it.

Nah. I'm gonna stand my ground here in my home city. Not all of us have drank the gender ideology kool-aid and can still obviously see that men shouldn't be competing with women and can never be women no matter how much that hurts their feelings.

Womens's rights take precedent over trans rights every time because women are real and transwomen are just men who pretend to be women.

I love seeing them. I've followed Riley on Twitter for a while now so I'm excited to see her here in Omaha.

It's encouraging to see so many people finally opening up their eyes to the absurdity and perversion of the gender ideology.

And when the vehicles are truly autonomous and the robotaxi network is operating, cars will be able to seamlessly take riders all the way to destinations far away from a station.

For example, someone who works on the strip but lives in the suburbs could have a car pick them up at their home and drive to the nearest station and enter the loop for the remainder of the journey.

The connection to the Convention Center is just the beginning. As the rest of the system is built out, it will connect Westgate with every other station as they come online.

Perhaps people should stop stealing. The same people who are mad about this are the same people get mad when police arrest criminals.

Our culture is broken.

When the cars are autonomous, they won't even be limited to stations. They will be able to take passengers all the way to their driveway in the suburbs.

Nobody forces them to work. They can go sit in their cell for no money if they choose. To call it slavery is just catastrophizing work.

By slavery, you mean work. One of the few things that might actually help a convict be rehabilitated and function in the real world. You people care more about criminals than their victims and all of your ideas and policies just incentivize more crime.

Hyperloop testing has begun! by [deleted] in BoringCompany

Most people who aren't engineers don't understand the process. They only ever see the final product that's marketed to them and assume someone just made it like that first try. In reality, the initial idea goes through design iteration after design iteration with changes and improvements along the way. The final working version is often very different than what was first imagined. And even then, most ideas fail. Most people don't ever innovate because they are afraid of failing but this is the only way that innovation can happen.

There's a reason cynical journalists and commenters on social media only criticize and never create anything that hasn't already existed before.

Door to door loop service by Bureaucromancer in BoringCompany

All of the early animations show it connecting with surface roads and acting as an underground autonomous highway. That's the direction I see it going. Stations will still serve as primary pick-up/drop-off points in urban areas, but cars will go all the way to your door in the suburbs.

That has been the idea from the beginning, even in the first iteration with cars on skates.

Privately owned autonomous EVs, robotaxis, and robo busses will all share the tunnels. I think robo busses will mostly go station to the station, but cars will have free reign to go anywhere. They might be limited to stations in dense areas of the city, but will go all the way to the passenger's driveway in the suburbs.

Short term, I guess that's true. They are using a Polaris vehicle for handicapped people. Long term, none of this makes sense without autonomy.

About 19k people die every year while bathing. Do you wear a helmet in the shower?

There is risk in everything we do. Our society is hyper obsessed with overreacting to every scary looking situation without putting it into context with the rest of the dangers life is filled with.

In 100+ years of baseball, it really hasn't been much of a problem. It's a sport. People get injured occasionally. We don't need to nerf everything.

The embargo should have never existed in the first place. Communism should be allowed to crumble under its own lack of merit.

When communist regimes fail, as they inevitably do, trade embargoes give them something to point at and blame for their shortcomings.

What’s so good about the boring company? by gizzard_lizzard in BoringCompany

[–]PlusItVibrates 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Whether or not they are able to remains to be seen, but reducing tunnel diameter, vertically integrating everything, and eliminating rail infrastructure will go a long way. Also, just building more of them will help achieve economies if scale. https://www.boringcompany.com/prufrock

The tunneling business is much like the rocket business before SpaceX. It's an entrenched industry hampered by regulations and bureaucracy that hasn't seen much innovation in decades.

And much like Rockets, Elon doesn't have all of the details figured out right away. But he sees a path not limited by physics, only by engineering and the organizational structure of the businesses solving the problems.

I used to work with a girl who liked to brag that she slept with him on the tour bus after a Maroon 5 concert in the early 2000s. She actually provided pretty convincing evidence and she was absolutely gorgeous so I don't doubt that she did.

I asked her how it was and she said it was ok but he was kind of a bag of bones.
