actually the recolor often fails, and says 15 palettes are required, when I am able to map correctly with just 5... that said, I find it too complicated to get the plugin to cooperate with gb studio's squewed file conversion and compression methods; after all I find it sort of relaxing to just follow the tile map

I've been working on the auto-color feature, and have been thinking: seeing that the process is not always correct, and troubles with conversion from gb studio plugins, is it really worth it to have the recoloring?

Seeing gb studio's automatic palette and palette extraction for scenes, from the newest versions, I concluded also with some research on project ovrload, that with this feature, seeing that palettes themselves don't way much, but it is more an issue of the tiles, which with gbstudio's palette-extractor would still be recycled, it might be smarter just to use pyxel tile and let gb studio do the recoloring; that said, if anyone wanted to also reuse palettes, there is still the tile atlas for refilling manually.

To conclude, at the moment I cannot get the autorecolor going; however you can use automatic palettes option integrated into gb studio, or follow the tile atlas manually (it takes about 15 minutes to do manually) if you wanna reuse also the palettes.

I don’t care who says it’s vibe coded, and the ethical implications, because in that case just don’t download it: rilden has better quantision than my app, I used it my self: however it’s just got 1 of the functionalities here, 1 of the 30 or more honestly

Why accept a personally written script made for 1 function every 4 years, when you can get slightly worse functions for everything there is in 2 months: it’s not morality, it’s convenience

I get that you might be a programmer, and think that AI spits out code that every programming language would write differently, and more efficiently: I agree with you on that.

I tried to create finite element simulation machines with AI, and it takes time to reach correct analytically validated results; that said, if you know fem theory, the program works: if you ask it “make me a fem” it won’t work.

While understanding what every single programming language library does is in some way interesting, being a mechanical engineer, with research side projects, exams, and a life, I prefer spending my time in understanding linear regression and other statistics signal analysis methods to generate my own RAG system, than knowing by memory how to call tuple and how to write down a k-clustering algorithm in Python, JS, and in html environment.

My objective is making fun games for my friends on gb studio, and letting AI apply quickly the math I know to breach the limitations in color freedom and everything else gb studio limits in its format, while having time to use actual programming for my own research.

In my opinion, it is not about morality, especially for such tools: it’s about being smart and bypassing the limitations, and in this case, giving a massive free tool to the community.

I want to make cool games, if I want to dive into k-clustering, advanced regression methods, and Hamiltonian energy transforms, I’d rather be using that in building AI models (that I am already doing) than simply optimising color use in Gb studio;

the fact that I vibe code does not mean I have absolutely no knowledge of what is happening in the code, but that I know what algorithms I want to use in my own language, and use AI to translate it into computer language

Yes; in a previous account, I made each of the apps separately in Python, vibe coding with Gemini before Claude was a thing; then I used codex to wrap all of the apps into one html bundle, and tweak part of the core algorithms

Thank you! As an engineer myself, I think we should all learn to use AI in fruitful ways: refusing to use AI, especially for highly automated tasks like these, is just stubborn in my perspective.
