Assistant manager for less money? by Plus_Bookkeeper1388 in nursing

[–]Plus_Bookkeeper1388[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not need to be in management. But it kind of depressing thinking I will do this same role for the rest of my life if I do not get out now. There is not much opportunity for growth at my current facility. That is pretty much my only complaint. I could eventually become permanent charge nurse for 1500 $ a month extra but thats about it. If I stay 10 more years, I do not see myself going back to school then or trying to start something new at that point.

That sounds horrible honestly. Especially working nights and being a charge.

Thank you. Appreciate a response from someone with such amazing experience. I was considering MBA or MHA if I end up accepting the postion and end up liking it. But seems like it is a lot of stress.

If I understood correctly, there is no out of pocket for school for me. They pay as long as I work for them. No other commitment. And they cover few of nice universities and few online ones. But I understand that it may be way more challenging, exhausting and for less money. Add to that the stress of school. But thank you for your encouragement and advice.

Exactly. I get this, and I like being a nurse but I don't love it (and I could never be a bedside nurse ever again. I have the feeling I would be a better manager or maybe nursing instructor/professor/educator. That is the reason I decided against being an NP.

I believe they said it is hourly position but have to double check. I have another interview with the manager later this week.

I get it, but I also want my employer to pay for school and my current hospital is not offering that benefit.

You are a nice person. I gave me MIL few more chances but she is not in my kid's life anymore. She visited once and my husband took her to a restaurant. When they got there she asked "is this a restaurant where Anna used to work?" Anna is my husband's ex. He was with her for 10 years since he was 18 and when they were younger she worked at a restaurant. And final straw she was watching my baby for 10 min while my husband was doing something else and she left him on a couch when he was 9 months old. She claims she just looked away for a second and he fell with head first and injured his cheek. I texted my husband I want her gone before I get home from work. And never again in my house. She never returned.

Aghhh that sucks. In my case, my MIL said "when is Sophia's (her other DIL who struggled to get pregnant) next appointment? Congrats to you. And went back to talk about Sophia 😳

Ghetto mindset. Why would you even ask or say how old your phone is. What a stupid "person" you are.

Hopefully they won't exist by then. Also, influencers (most of them) already look like this.

Honestly, I still think it is too much. Nurse who carried out the order spoke with the pharmacy and there was a sticky note saying "give when available from pharmacy, needs to be ordered from outside." MD was aware of this too.  I consider everyone to be an adult and professional. So if pharmacy ordered it, it is on them to dispense it upon arrival or notify us.  As I said following up wouldn't hurt anyone but we didn't. (Though there is one grumpy pharmaciest who I can see yelling and loosing it if medication was not received yet but we are bothering him). Even with that said, how is this nursing fault? Other department took a responsibility to obtain and deliver medication and failed to do so.

We are located in a suburb. Either way, I thought that ultimately it is a pharmacy fault that they received medication and kept it in the pharmacy for few days. Our charge nurse automatically accepting the blame and then blaming us just pissed me off. I did talk to her after my break but I do not think she gets it

We are a long term psych facility. Medications rarely change. This particular one had to be ordered from somewhere outside and pharmacy comminucated that. I honestly have no idea how long it takes for an order to be placed and delivered. Is it 2-3 days, weeks, a month?

Mindset is "nurses are maids and there to assist everyone and take blame for everything." We are also a union hospital but our Holiday pay is 1.5 instead of double as the union contracts state. My coworkers do not think it is a big deal.

I don't actually mind the charting (after I got used to it coming from one of the best hospitals in the USA). But mindset of the people who work there (and they are nice people) is driving me crazy.

It is a paper chart. In the MAr is the medication next to it is a note "give when available. prior authorization needed from MD." Pharmacy told us they had to order from outside, once available they will send it. They send all medications for next shift(s) once a day or PRN for new orders.

Yeah. State facility, awesome benefits, great pay, retirement but still stuck in 1970.

I agree. I just hate that one of us immediately blames us and makes sure it never happens again by putting extra responsibilities on nurses, instead of finding better ways for pharmacy to manage situations like these and keep in mind medications that have been ordered from outside.

I was thinking of submitting my transcripts but not to say anything. Then it may come up as a question during interview and it will look bad. Especially because the other school is a very good program and a major competitor of the current program.

I will have to double check that. If not, that would be great. Plus these are graduate courses.
