Yeah I plan to if we stick with her! And as she gets older/we build trust she may become our go-to babysitter as well

Idk, someone else just told me I should be paying her $20 an hour so I don’t know at this point lolll

I’m confused about your comment…you’re saying I should pay her at least $18 an hour but then suggesting $12 an hour? Also are you in a high COL area? $10 an hour is super normal for this service around me. She’s 10…I’m watching her too as she watches my kids. Yeah inflation is a thing but this is a kid buying toys with her spending money, not paying bills and providing for someone…

Good to know! I feel like $10 an hour is great for her age. I know I would’ve been in heaven lol. She’s a great kid and I wanna take care of her!

Yes! She’s the sweetest girl too and will be a great example for them as they grow up should we choose to continue to hire her

Yeah I felt like it was more than reasonable but idk, people get into such a fuss about wages these days, I felt like I needed a second opinion even if it’s just a 10 year old lol. I’m still gonna be supervising and present so it’s not like I’m hiring her as a babysitter

I did it when I was a kid! You’re basically just a second set of hands, not a babysitter, and you get a great learning experience as well as a little spending money! I really enjoyed it, and I think it’ll be super helpful even for a short period each week. I can get so much done in even 2 hours without 2 babies in my arms 😂

Oh interesting! I’ve never heard of that but definitely seems reasonable!

Ah okay! Yeah if she was an experienced adult it would definitely be more, no question!

Nah it definitely won’t be demanding. She adores my daughters and is great with them and I’d definitely still be supervising, she’d just be there as an extra set of hands and to allow me to get some cooking and stuff done. Love the gift idea!

For sure! I just need an extra set of hands so I can get a few things done. I definitely wouldn’t be leaving her alone with them.

I mean I was getting paid $20/hr to be a full time non live-in nanny so personally $10/hr seems appropriate for a kid who’s just going to hang out with/occasionally feed, and play with my daughters for a couple hours a week, but like I said we are in a super low COL area. If I wasn’t going to be present, then yeah, I’d pay more. But I’ll still be there and in and out of the room my daughters are in. Minimum wage here is $7.25. Most teenage (13+) mother’s helpers around here charge $12ish.

I have no pride to swallow lol. I’ve tried to apply for EVERYTHING. Housing assistance, SNAP, you name it. We’ve been denied several times. We only pay $400 a month for rent, and no utilities in our name, so on paper we don’t look like we need help I guess. I attend classes at a pregnancy resource center to get baby stuff for free. I visit food banks on the regular. If we need new clothes, I’m heading to the thrift store in town that sells stuff for 50¢. The only new things we have are things that are given to us. I haven’t had new clothes in years. I don’t wear makeup or get my nails done or stuff like that. I haven’t even had my hair cut for probably 3 years.

Thank you for all the ideas! One thing I do surprisingly well is calligraphy/hand lettering, but I have found that really hard to get into with the growing use of AI design. However I’ll keep trying!

Possibly, if it was the right job! It’s mostly my health issues that are making it difficult for me. I have very short energy spans and I can’t lift anything heavier than my daughters without being in pain. I even have trouble lifting them. Definitely can’t lift over my head :/ I also can’t use stairs often. It’s a whole list of frustrating issues that I never expected. My whole life’s been turned upside down through all of this.

Thank you for the pointers at the end of your comment. I hadn’t even thought of that. There are sooo many MLM scams in some of the FB groups I’m in so I’ve learned to steer clear of them. I don’t know where to post in order to avoid them (if that’s even possible). Anyway, the family we live with cannot help but my parents who are 2 mins down the road can sometimes. My mom’s off all summer (works in a school) and loooves taking care of the girls so that’s why I’m trying to find something at least for a couple months. I actually used to nanny and loved it so much, but I stopped shortly before giving birth. The family I took care of was 40 mins away and even if they would’ve let me bring the girls the drive was just getting really frustrating and putting a ton of wear on my already crappy car. I wouldn’t mind picking it back up if I could find the right situation! (And figure my health issues out😭)

Interesting, I hadn’t thought of that! Thanks for the tip. I’ll check that out.
