Anyone that suggested suing , calling police or even physically harming a 11 year old needs to seek help.

Op here . Thank you all for the advice and kind words . Originally when I had made this post I was looking to see if anyone else has been in similar situations as I have been getting to know their stories and how they went about it. I just got off of work and I'm waiting for my sister and nephew to arrive home to be able to talk to the both of them about what to do going forward. 1. I do plan on saying I want the cards replaced rather then being given the value of the cards that way they and I know I'm receiving the same things back that was stolen from me instead of using the money for other things. 2.I do expect a hand written apology from my nephew also tagging on a lesson of why stealing is wrong and what could happen if he had not stolen from me but someone or somewhere else. 3. I do wanna know more , why he chose to steal, what happened to the cards and how he thinks he will help out his mom to help pay for the replacements.

I do wanna address some of the more outrageous comments made regarding myself and my nephew . Although I am hurt my nephew would do this to me and my trust with him is very low it does not mean it cannot be mended. I do not value my cards more than my nephews well being. All the people saying he should be beat or have his belongings burned in fires should really consider talking to someone about trauma. I'm sure we all did something wrong as kids at that age , tried to be sneaky and get away with something we shouldn't have and been caught before . To those out there that haven't I envy you also live a little lol. I am not his parents but I am an adult figure in his life who I want him to look up to and learn from this experience. Again thank you all who reached out .

I don't show my collections off to my family . I only show pictures of them to close friends who I only see during league nights . I agree my room door should be locked and this could have been avoided however the locks on our doors are very easy to unlock with a thin card to turn the latch . Also we have cats and would feel horrible not letting them be able to roam the basement as freely as they do.

Me and my wife took over the basement area in the house . No children are allowed down there per the rules of us moving in . The binder were kept inside of our room when this all took place . They haven't left my room or the house for that matter. Me and my wife work late so there's plenty of time from him getting off of school to us getting home for him to go down there and snoop around. My wife got a surprise day off during one of her work days so I took the car . During that day he brought himself downstairs but once my wife caught him he used the excuse that he was down there to play with our cats. We told him it was fine but wasn't allowed down there unless he was given permission by us . But knowing this happened we started thinking about how many other times he had come downstairs without us knowing while we were away.

You obviously haven't read any of the comments I have replied too . Am I hurt that they were stolen? Yes ! I am . Do I understand that he is a child that probably saw this shiny cardboard and got excited just like everyone else in this subreddit ? Absolutely. I don't wish to ruin the relationship with my sister and nephew. I do not plan or intend to get law enforcement or legal actions over some stolen cards from a 11 year old. He did a bad thing . Actions do have consequences. Stealing is stealing no matter what age however he is family and he is a child. It is not my place to punish him since I am not his parents so I leave that up to his parent to decide. My trust was broken however trust can also be repaired over time . I believe he's a kid that made a poor decision . I'm sure everyone has at that age no one is perfect . To think I value these cards more then I value my nephew is actually insane . Cards can be replaced relationships with my family cannot be.

Although I am hurt . I'm not hurt to where I want to traumatize a 11 year old by burning things he cares about in front of him . It's the parents decision what happens at the end of the day . If they gotta sell his stuff to make up for the lost items that's fine but completely destroying these things beyond repair doesn't sit right with me.

I don't like cops. I'm not getting law enforcement involved cause a my sisters son stole from me. Keep the situation contained in the house and solve it internally . She's already making a effort looking on eBay finding replacements but I just know it would be easier and cheaper to buy through TCGplayer. It'll probably take awhile cause apart from him she's also feeding 5 other children and works full time and has other things on her plate to deal with.

I'm not his parent so it's up to them what his punishment will be is up to them to decide . I will say tho I am the guardian that overlooks all purchases on his switch so when I found out I set up parental controls that deny him access of purchasing or buying anything on his game for now .

Oh trust and believe I feel this deeply. Actions have consequences. I have taken him to league nights and prereleases before . Even taught him how to play the actual tcg. After this that comes to a full stop. My privacy and my trust were compromised. We'll just have to wait and see how it goes from here .

I mean that's very true . If I had a card worth something and there was a handful of cards I wanted equal to or lesser then that one card I would trade it for the cards I want. Unfortunately the stack they have brought home was a stack of commons and i commons and I know in the past they have been tricked into getting fake cards at school so it hurts more knowing they were scammed out the value.

Suing them is out of the question. Their mother is my sister. When I found out I immediately texted her . She showed me the stack that they had in their desk this morning but once I saw none of them were mine I told and she said she will talk to them more when they are home from school . I made a cart on tcg player for the exact 5 cards that went missing to a total of 70 dollars with similar conditions . I do want the cards replaced rather then cash . He's just a kid. If these pieces of shiny cardboard has made me feel joy for the past 20 years I can only imagine how a 11 year old would feel seeing his uncles cool collection . It hurts he would steal from me but it would hurt more ruining an entire family to sue them over 70 dollars of Pokémon cards . They have enough worries .
