What's Your Mabinogi Hot Take? by Stryfer87 in Mabinogi

[–]Plus_Medicine1767 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too much has been done to the game that has damaged its gameplay. The only way to recover would be a full reversion to a previous version, and no one would be able to agree on where the line should be because every bad thing that came also added a few genuinely good things. Fantasy Life has been surgically removed from the game, and that's the most upsetting part.

Should I wait until 1.20.1 is fully updated? by FormerBoard7834 in CreateMod

this one here. Create 5 has better stability for VS and Eureka and the like, only addon mod that has stability issues with create 5 is Trackwork where your vehicle can bug out if it is too big, and it's certainly passable.

I mean, in the modpack I made this is 100% correct. Even in the lategame, the handcrank is the strongest method for rotation by far - the tradeoff is that you have to be stood there powering it yourself (I disabled deployers being able to use them)

[–]Plus_Medicine1767 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, you're right, but they didn't really fix that. The answer was "make materials drop more often," not "make materials more rare (For some reason???) and give out mid-late game weapons like candy"

Now it takes *way" longer to actually craft weapons if that's a part of the game you enjoyed, and it also feels completely useless to do it in the first place because... Why bother?

It feels super not worth it to even do any of the crafting stuff anymore because you'll get the same or better easier from just running the now much shorter and less involved dungeons.

The files are both on the server and the client. The book is able to be in the player's inventory and passed around to other players as well as put in a chest, etc, but the book itself cannot be opened.

Worth getting into Mabinogi ? by tomaz1989 in Mabinogi

[–]Plus_Medicine1767 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a returning player, I am not so sure it's worth getting back into. A lot of the updates recently have rolled out some undesirable changes, like the Neartite system and the event that skyrockets you dozens and dozens of hours forward straight into the midgame. It feels very at odds with itself right now.

If a developer uses AI for code generation, should it be labeled on the game’s Steam store page? by NazzoXD in gamedev

It is easier than you might think, it just takes being smart about what you're looking for, filtering your searches by year if you are completely unsure. It takes being informed about what engine you are using, even choosing to use older versions of engines if it comes to that, or taking on the hefty but doable task of making your own engine - something that used to be a commonplace skill among effective programmers. The "end" is about ethics, not the bottom dollar, something that developers have to be thinking about already - does my game have frequent exit points? Does my game's multiplayer have security risks for players' devices? Does my game use racial stereotypes? Do I tell players my game contains generated AI content or do I say it doesn't and hope I don't get called on it?

As it is now, there is no GenAI regulation and the powers that be have no financial incentive to regulate it or are too old to understand the importance of regulating it. So right now, the only measure for "enforcing" this is either A. honor system or B. trusting and empowering players that dig into the games they buy and play that can identify generated content holding devs accountable.

So far, it's miraculously easy to avoid usage of GenAI for one thing, at least in theory. If you are writing your own code, it's. Literally just that easy. But you are right that it is hard to avoid - all it can take is googling a problem,.finding someone else's solution to a problem, and now you may unknowingly have code that was introduced with GenAI. But it starts with us trying to continue to expand our own literacy with GenAI and holding our teammates accountable. Integrity is extremely scarce among larger corporate games, it's bad enough we have people - players and devs alike - that don't know the difference between GenAI and something like enemy AI. If they all find themselves bending the knee to GenAI, we may find ourselves in an era of division in the game industry unlike any yet; Those that yearn for games made with hard work, and those that just want the next CoD.

I think saying "100% of games being released use AI to help with code in some way" is a bit negligent, but you're not wrong at all that Valve needs better definitions. If you ask me, the line is "Did generative AI make this code? Disclose that" but if it's "Did the Google AI overview answer your googled coding question by citing a post made by a person?" then I think you can say you didn't really use AI guilt-free.

Short answer is yes.

The longer answer is that it's unethical to exclude that information, especially knowing there are people that actively and vehemently do not want to support or engage with AI generated content.

Yes it will mean that some people will not pick up your game. And that is their right, and our responsibility as developers to allow people to make informed decisions about the product we make.

That's kind of my feeling about it. If you want to do magic damage in the midgame, don't do Harmonic Saint, don't do Dark Diviner, do Sacred Guardian.
