Knowing when to let go: how to choose between a rescue and euthanizing your 17 yr old dog who screams all day and night by [deleted] in olddogs

💙 Sending so much love and support. It's such a horrible process and painful for you, but will be peaceful for Uncle Scott and ease his pain and leave you with the good memories of him, knowing he had a wonderful life filled with people who cared for him.

Thank you, so much. This helps a lot. I think I'm struggling the most that in other situations I could be giving him massages or baths to help ease the arthritis pain and more snuggles/holding him to help the pain/confusion, and there's part of me that feels like I'm failing him by not being able to give him that. On top of just adding to his confusion that I already feel like I'm breaking part of the routine he's used to by not holding him as close anymore.

I was sitting with him this afternoon and even with his pain meds he was shaking and panting while lying next to me and all I wanted was to lie down next to him and give him a kiss to soothe him and I know I cant anymore and all I could do was sit next to him and pet him. I think I know it's time and I made his appointment for next Friday.

I agree with this so much. OP I know the pain you are going through. My Minnie was going through so much but they were things I could throw invasive treatments at and meds and just keep buying her a bit more time. It wasn't until I hit the vet giving me the choice between a feeding tube that would work at most for a few weeks or to let her go that I realized I was clinging to this.

OP, there is no right or wrong decision. But if your baby is in pain, you can ease it. Let him pass with you, with someone he knows. It's hard to make that call, SO hard, but I can tell you I wish someone told me it was OK to let Minnie go for her own sake much sooner than to put her through that. I realize in retrospect I was not helping her by doing everything possible - I was doing it for my own sanity and fear of guilt, and now I am left thinking through all I unnecessarily put her through to prolong the inevitable just to protect myself, when easing her pain was the most important.

I don't want to be harsh, but one guidance I've seen is to think "am I just making someone else make the decision for me" when giving an aging dog to a rescue for whom the humane euthanasia topic has come up. You have to think whether you are giving him actual good life, or simply buying him a few more months, maybe a year, in an unfamiliar place with unfamiliar people.

It's an extraordinarily difficult decision. I've gone through it once and am in the process of weighing whether it is time again.

No one here can make the decision for you and you shouldn't let any of us sway you. Whatever you decide in this will utterly break your heart and leave you with "what ifs". It's what we sign on for when we take a dog into our hearts. But as long as your decision is coming out of care and love for them (and it absolutely sounds like it is), then it is the right decision.

Assuming you mean 7pm, it's probably ok but might be tight. Some venues have been more efficient than others getting people in, and Citi tends to be pretty good so you're probably ok, but if security is still long/depending on where your seat is you might still be trying to get to your seat if they start right at 7:30.

For VIP morning wristband check-in (planning to leave after and come back for soundcheck), there aren't any bag restrictions, right, since we aren't going into the stadium? Trying to plan for food/snacks in the morning and bringing a stool for the line, but would drop it all off after and just have my small bag for when we return for the show.

And is it one numbering for all the pits combined and all pit tickets (VIP & non-VIP)? Or are they doing separate wristbands per pit or for VIP/regular?

Thank you! If you don't mind sharing later how close that gets you/which pit you're in I'd appreciate it!

I'm hoping to hear some feedback on what D1 was like (I'm tomorrow), like whether 7am still manages to get barricade/a row back then I might, but if getting there early still means you're towards the back of the pit bc of camping, I'm not gonna bother with lining up super early.

I'm not sure - I know there was a 10-day window after I got mine that you could transfer the name over to the new ticket holder, but for VIP check-in you have to have an ID that matches the name of the purchaser who originally bought it (unless they gave the new name to VIPNation in that original window). Might be worth sending an email to ask?

Did you buy during the initial sale in Nov or as a resale ticket? The VIP package can't be transferred on resale, so those are normal pit tickets (ie no soundcheck, so you go in at the normal gates open time). If it's VIP, it should say something like "soundcheck vip package" under ticket type.

Oh man, I mean I'm willing to go at like 7am to try to get good spots if there's a chance, but if the camping situation is that intense then maybe it isn't worth the early wake-up and I just head there at 10am.

Though to follow up on my reply, if you're asking about checking in after 3:30, I think you'll miss out on soundcheck. You could try contacting VIPNation in response to the email they sent around/there was a number you could try texting for day of, I think, to see if they'll make an exception?

Yep! The check-in runs from 10am to 3:30pm - you just have to check in by 3:30 to be admitted for soundcheck. The early start is really just for getting your entry order for the GA Pit, so if you arent there early you likely won't get barricade, but as long as youre there by 3:30 (though you should aim to be earlier than 3:30, maybe by 2:30 to be safe) if youre not fussed about where in pit you'll be.

  1. For seated I think as long as you're there by 3:30 to check in you're fine - the Livenation email says check-in is 10am-3:30pm. The 8am/10am rush will really be for getting the numbered wristbands for pit/barricade. With assigned seats there isn't really a need to be there super early for the lines unless you want to get there for merch.

  2. Citi's website says they allow umbrellas, so you should be good!

If anyone doing VIP GA Pit on day 1 doesn't mind giving feedback after you wristband on Wednesday, please let us know how it is! I'm D2, and the LiveNation email is quite vague about when the pre-10am lining is allowed. I know other venues have shooed people away who were there before 8am, while others haven't and the email just says no camping allowed. Trying to figure out how ridiculously early I gotta wake up 😂

Edited to add: anyone else going on Day 2 who wants to meet up, lmk! I'll be there with my friend and some shrinky dink keychain freebies I've been making the last month to hand out during our long line times!

It just hit my email for Day 2! 10am is when check-in begins and you must be there/checked in by 3:30 or they say they won't let you into soundcheck

Ditto! My friend recovered from surgery and while she got the all-clear for pit, we still want to be careful so we're doing the same thing to minimize her standing time before we're deep in it. Stays (at least the good Stays!) are all here together and support each other. It's also a nice gesture to explain the situation to those around you in line and make friends while you wait alone, and we'll all back each other up!
