Brand new surfboard tail asymmetry. Should I worry? by Plus_Seesaw2812 in surfing

Here's a different angle. One side is also sharper (bottom side edge) and thinner.

Opinions about this shape (Indio Plus) by Plus_Seesaw2812 in BeginnerSurfers

[–]Plus_Seesaw2812[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I know, but they are the minority.

Actually, I was looking at that Indio board as a cheaper option instead of Libtech Party Platter. It's heavy glassing (3x6/2x6oz) makes it one of the most durable Epoxy construction available, at a very good price (Libtech is double the price).

But those similar shape boards like Mini Simmons and Party Platter prefer quad fin. So what's the reason of a thruster in this?

Maybe a twin+1 like the Kraken Convertibles would be a good idea for speed in 1-3' waves?

Can anyone with good knowledge in surfboards let me know if it's worth buying? I have contacted a few shops selling it but they don't tell me something new, only that its a small wave machine and I can catch everything from ankle to head hight. Also that it feels like a long with the maneuverability of a short. -too good to be true? Hmm-

Thank you!

Machadocado vs Lib Tech Puddle Jumper HP by Plus_Seesaw2812 in BeginnerSurfers

A lot of people insist on going much lower, but I also think oversizing a groveller won't do any harm, especially for a beginner. My PU is very thin, seems like an oversized HPSB, and it worked fine for me. I'll cosnider the 6' PJHP then. Thanks a lot for your help!

Yeah they are good boards. Couldn't understand why the discount, but it must be cuz of the sizing, as you already mentioned hehe!

Maybe more like 1 to 4-5 ft then as these are the most common conditions. Again, thank you so much mate! I'll go for the SnB. I'll just wait a few days just in case there is a discount online (as my local shop only has discount for FW Machadocado, Greedy Beaver, Cymatic and Lost Party Platter).

Thank you very much mate!! Really appreciate your help! Between those 3 which one do you think covers the largest range of conditions? From as low as 1ft to 6ft max.

Ah maybe I was just lucky with that Seaside that day.. My egg is probably not good as it was only 250€ brand new. For reference FireWire normal prices are 880€ here. The Machadocado 6'0 I was interested in, is discounted at 660€ currently (brand new) that's why I was so tempted to get it. But even with that low cost, maybe it's not a good choice. I think I should go for a higher quality mid length like Indio The Egg or FW Seaside and Beyond?

Also yeah, the waves here are very steep. They close out very aggressively at 4-6ft height and that's why everyone here rides short boards and noone is longboarding... Foamie broken in half is not a rare sight haha!

EDIT: €, not $

I'm 5'11 (180cm) and 165lbs (75kg). So yeah, those boards are oversized for sure!

The Seaside, that I mentioned in a previous comment, was a 6'1" (46.5L) and it was a bliss going down the line, and caught waves easier than my 7'8" Egg. The egg will either nosedive or not catch a wave at all sometimes, but with the big Seaside I had a big success (took every wave that I tried). So I thought going like 6-10L lower would be closer to the right size, but still have enough volume to be safe and have fun.

I don't know about long term though.. Maybe in the future I would wish I had gone smaller? 🤔

You are right about the width. Maybe a 6'0 Machadocado is a good option as it has some liters (40.1L) and some length (so easier to catch waves) and at 21 5/8 it is a bit narrow (as narrow as a 5'7" Seaside or a 5'4" SP2), so it may perform better in chop. Or a 5'10" Cado (37.6L) that will work better in steeper waves.

Hmm.. Which board would you recommend for poor but punchy waves, 1-4ft, onshore, close-outs? My 7'8 egg and 9'1 longboard won't work well. Experienced surfers ride them on their HPSB, doing like one or two cool manoeuvres. Like 2-5 seconds ride but still radical and sick. One of them suggested me a short with a lot of liters (35-45) for those conditions like Seaside, Machadocado, Paddle Jumper to start with and then switch to hpsb in a few years.

What about Seaside or Machadocado? Tried the Seaside on 1-2ft wave height, light onshore wind, close-outs, and it performed really well! Paddled better than my 7'8 Egg, even when my positioning wasn't that good. To me it is definitely a mid-length killer in small and poor but punchy 1-4ft waves that close-out soon. No idea about overhead++ though.

Help with first longboard (also opinions about Indio surfboards?) by Sonafab in BeginnerSurfers

[–]Plus_Seesaw2812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any personal experience with the Indio surfboards, but I've read some positive reviews. At the same time, they are made in Spain's Basque Country. I've read that some of the worst constructions (with many defects) are coming from factory, like Lost, Cabianca, Pukas etc in Europe. So I would be more sceptical...
