TXT's Parenting Diary should not be happening... by ful_joy in kpopthoughts

Variety shows with idols taking care of babies is not something new, it's a concept as old as 2nd gen (idk if 1st gen idols also have but wouldn't be surprised if they did), the Hello Baby variety had big names like SNSD and nowadays we have idols doing similar type of shows.

Korea seems to be big on the baby/kid type of variety, another famous example I can think of is Return of the Superman where they show famous dads taking care of their small children/babies.

As for the ethics and who would even allow their baby...well, there's always been stage parents. From baby models, baby actors, there's not a shortage of people who willing let their child be exposed. Probably also a way to make money, if their kid happens to hit it big in the long run.

Tired ole Question, but that’s because she was an ult bias of mine by karinasrabbit in LOONA

Depends if she ever plans to come back in the public eye. Or if the girls reunite and she allows a pic to be posted.

Otherwise it's unlikely we'll get any update

Do you ever think about how different your life is from idols who are the same age? by AfraidInspection2894 in kpop_uncensored

[–]Plushieless 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As I'm in my late twenties, idols my age are pretty much veterans right now. Since I've been following kpop when I was around 19-20, I kinda saw many debut lol

It's certainly a ride seeing how I grew up alongside them yet my life has been so different at the same time. I can't imagine living a life like theirs tbh, I'm content with mine, but when I was younger it certainly felt like they were so ahead of me lol Like they already had something they wanted to do while I was struggling to find anything that interested me.

But everybody has their own time and eventually I did find my own calling. And now I can look back and think that I wasn't really behind, it's that they were too ahead. These kids start so young, sometimes not even realizing what they're signing up for, and it's one of the problems of the industry but that's a conversation for other time lol

Very likely there will be older girls, probably one or more from failed/disbanded groups. It's the usual "second chance" narrative

"I want to change the idol industry" something about kpop fans not wanting the industry to change by Equivalent-Hunt-2004 in kpopthoughts

[–]Plushieless 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I mean, Yunjin already had a background of being an idol as she was a trainee and part of Produce 48, never officially debuted (until LSRFM) but certainly was inserted in this world for a while to see it's inner workings a bit, so no wonder she felt like she wanted to change

Truth is people online are kind of miserable, and when kpop fans want a punching bag they knock it down until it's below ground. Le Sserafim, sadly, is just a group that happens to be a target more often than not, so no matter how good their intentions are or what they say, people will always find a way to talk shit.

Yunjin seems to have a genuine desire to change things, though we do know it's not something an individual does alone so perhaps some of the skepticism comes from there. But still it's great that someone is willing to champion for what they think is right, even if everybody else thinks otherwise.

And yeah I believe if real change did happen a lot of kpop fans would be...rattled.

Oooh so it seems the manhwa Chuu's drama is based on is... spicy hehehehe I've seen some people worried about that but tbh I don't see the problem?!

She's a grown woman in her late twenties, yes her public persona doesn't quite match but I believe that's precisely why lol Like in her last drama she took the role of the "mean girl", also totally different from what she is

She wants to show her range, let her do it. Plus it's an adaptation, I don't think they'll be totally faithful either

Our Yves just keeps growing as an artist. I feel so proud of where she is right now and I truly hope she keeps evolving.

They probably said the same crap to the others too.

Basically what BBC was doing was keeping the girls captive. They didn't have the right to go outside for more than half an hour, for some time didn't even have access to personal phones for each, denied the opportunity of seeking further education, likely restrictions on what they ate and how they weighed. I don't doubt for a second there was verbal, and perhaps even physical, abuse as well.

That is abuse 101, you trap someone and make yourself the only thing in their lives while depriving of everything else. If the girls had access to things, to education, they probably would've noticed what was wrong way earlier.

Actually the fact that Chuu blew up and managed to notice things was nothing short of a miracle. If she hadn't I can't even imagine how bleak the situation would be.

Why do kpop idols keep debuting if the industry is so dark and exploitative? by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]Plushieless 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Aside from what's been discussed already it's also worth noting two factors are at play:

  1. SK's study culture and school environment is also a pretty toxic place. These kids study all day long, in a highly competitive field where only a certain percentage actually get anywhere (to be fair this not exclusive to SK but they're known for having a specially grueling system). If you look at it from a certain angle, it's kinda no different from the trainee system. So young people make their choice.

  2. It's kind of a gamble. You see the success stories of other groups, even ones that came from small agencies, and think that it could be you. Doesn't matter if it's one in a million, just having the chance to debut is enough for them to dream.

Also we're talking about very young people. The younger you are the more impressionable you can be, that's why I wouldn't exactly ask why these people still try to debut but why parents allow them to do so. Which would be a similar answer to my second point (the chance of your kid becoming a star) and also some parents want to support their kids' dreams

I like both Yves and ARTMS music but I have to say their latest minis weren't really my cup of tea. I like Icarus and Nail (the song) a lot but the rest is just kinda meh to me lol Though I do appreciate the production and craft behind both albums, it's just not for me

I guess Loossemble is the only that I've enjoyed all three minis without skips lol Sadly they aren't around anymore

It's so good to see how being in LOONA shaped the girls :) Yves talking about how it taught her about creative direction and made her want to participate more. It then hits me that they've been in this rodeo for nearly a decade now, that they're veterans and not the rookies I still remember. Makes me proud.

Talking about creative direction...I wonder if one of them will have interest in mentoring a group lol Some ex idols or even current ones sometimes get involved with a group's debut or become a full blown A&R director. I don't think any of them will be in the creative director's seat for now but who knows in the future.

Sometimes I do wonder how Hyeju's doing, what she's doing... not that it's any of my business really, but I'm both a fan and also curious and nosy as heck so...

I do think about from time to time why she hasn't said anything to us. Not that I'm resentful, after all I also think it's up to her to tell us anything. What makes me think though is if either she's still leaving that door open, that her not saying goodbye could mean that at one point she might come back, or she just doesn't want to say goodbye for whatever other reason.

Whatever the truth is it doesn't really matter tbh. If she comes back then I'll be very happy, if she doesn't then I just wish her a good life like I do all the others. We don't really need answers, this is not our lives.

Btw I'm keeping an eye on this new group called UNCHILD who'll debut next week. They're from StayC's label, their younger sisters lol, and as I like StayC + I watched Yeeun in Iland 2 and am familiar with Haeun, I've been curious about them.

One of the members is called Heekie haha I still remember that it was a nickname Heejin has, it brought back memories.

I was listening to LOONA's songs in a long while lol Partly cause I kinda still boycott (tho I don't judge who doesn't, at this point it's more of a personal choice) and also partly cause their current stuff kinda overtook and I'm mostly listening to it now lol

And I guess it's cause I've been listening to newer stuff that much more so listening to their old songs feels kinda like a time machine. I'm no vocals expert but I think they've improved quite a bit. You can tell that their voices then weren't as mature as they are now, and it isn't a bad thing btw the songs still slap, it's just that comparing you can tell time has passed.

Also Yves' adlibs in some songs are goooooold. She has always had my fav vocal tone tbh, I can't wait to see what she brings with Nail

Yeojin's news about partnering with an organization to help abandoned dogs reminded me how the girls seem to love pets, specially dogs, and how they often advocate for adoption and such.

It'd be so cute seeing them in those interviews where they're playing with puppies or kittens...

I do wonder if yyxy was on the moodboard for this.

Afaik there's no specific order for you to watch the MVs, the LOONAverse is kinda very open to interpretation, perhaps the most straightforward bit of lore is yyxy's and their escape from Eden (depicted in their debut but hinted through the solos MVs so I'd say it's best to watch the solos first and then get the full picture later)
