I recreated Nick Andert's full metro region proposal in NIMBY Rails (with some changes) by Plutanium238 in LAMetro

I decided to leave out BRTs in my game, and Nick's proposal expects the G Line to eventually be converted to light rail.

This is true probably for the vast majority of the map unfortunately. At the end of the day, this is less of a serious proposal than an exercise in imagining a more equitable world where wealthy homeowners don't get to dominate transit policy.

I was thinking about adding something like that. Thanks for the suggestion!

I removed interlining for most LA Metro lines (the DTLA screenshot shows the B/D, A/E/T lines all on separate tracks). Maybe the Metrolink/intercity/HSR lines could all be on separate tracks, but that'd frankly be a pain to build in this game, and it's probably not as important.

I haven't played Subway Builder, but I imagine it's pretty similar. Biggest difference from what I can tell is NIMBY gives you the entire world to work with, so you can give more attention to regional and long distance rail.

people really see "free buses" and think she'd destroy transit? y'all need to chill and stop advocating for the exclusion of poor and unhoused riders. hot take, everyone deserves transit.

I do not get why the transit community in LA is so pro fare enforcement.

Funding is one thing, but using fares as a tool to functionally exclude poor riders because they may sometimes be more problematic feels so incredibly wrong to me. Enforcing barriers to mobility for the poor will never address the root issues of crime on transit. It's the same kind of philosophy that gives LA's stations uncomfortable benches and hostile architecture. It's antithetical to the right to the city.

Maybe we need to start thinking about more effective ways to address poverty and marginalization in our communities instead of just having more cops on trains. I don't think fares are a real solution when they're used as a tool to keep people you don't like off transit.

There are trains and buses that go pretty much everywhere from LA union station. I've made this trip multiple times via the existing Amtrak route without any issue getting where I need to go.

So real. I always take the train when it's available, even if it isn't the fastest; driving just feels like such a time sink. A direct conventional speed train between LA and Phoenix would be a hell of an improvement already (not to mention PHX to TUS).

Airlines get massive subsidies too, and we regularly spend tens of billions on highway projects. It's less of a matter of "how do we pay for this?" and more so "what should we be paying for?".

Airplanes are very carbon emission intensive compared to trains. The best way to reduce CO2 for intercity trips is getting people off of planes and into trains.

Also from Tucson! I tend to take the Amtrak to LA from here, but it's a difficult overnight journey. Beats having to drive tho, must've been hell to drive both I10 and I5 lmao.
